Is there any way to prevent a villager from moving once they are in boxes? i.e go back one day

I don't think soo... You could always have someone hold them.

I guess you can get someone who you trust to get the villager, then ask that person to time travel that villager out.

I don't think so. You could have someone hold that villager and would have to complete the 16 villager cycle if you want them back.

Once they're in boxes there's nothing you can do to make them stay You could have a trusted person adopt them into their town so they can give the villager back later, but in order to receive them back you'd need to either reset or do the 16 villager cycle
