Hey guys! So Katrina decided to pay me a visit today! And I know she needs to tell a total of 20 fortunes to unlock her shop on main street, so I'm hoping to find a few people willing to get their fortune told today c:

Sadly, I don't have much to offer by way of fancy items, but I can give you 10k Bells for your trouble, if you want to. You're also free to hang around for a little while, buy whatever you want from the shops, talk to the inhabitants, anything you want as long as you don't run on my flowers
I just ask that you stop by Katrina first and get your fortune told. Who knows, maybe you have your lucky item somewhere!

Having guests will not help, you need 20 visits from town residents, you can just keep making and deleting a character until you have had 20 visits.

It isn't true, at all, I had over 20 guests, no shop, I remade a character over and over again, I have the shop, you can try it for yourself if you don't believe it.

sadly what Glaceon said is true, you must get your town residents to have their fortune told at either your town or other people's towns

I've also read that if you visit another town to get your fortune told, it counts towards the 20 visits to get a shop in your own town. Is this false too?
