So I've been working hard on getting my house figured out these past few days! I got a truckload of furniture already, and I know what I want to do with most of the rooms, but I need help with some because I get stuck on which items to use and what to refurbish and such.
I would greatly appreciate some critique, tips, suggestions, anything c:

Generally speaking, I want a homey house with a bunch of plants and such, since I'm going with a green city theme.

Main room:
White + plants, built around minimalistic series. Wondering if I should change up some of the chairs/add some furniture/add some plants? But I'm keeping the overall layout.

Right room - Bathroom:
Blue + Brown? I want the bathroom floor sometime, haven't gotten it yet. It's kinda spa like. I want to fit a bathtub in there eventually.

Back room - Caf?:
Idk if I should keep it, really. It's nice but it clashes with the rest. Dunno what else to put there tho?

Left room - Kitchen:
Blue + White. My favorite room so far! I don't think I want to change it much but advice is always appreciated! It could use some more surface to put things on but uuuh- no room x)

Basement - Server room + Book nook:
No colour theme. I still need the office wall in here. I like the computer/workspace side (tho I could use something to put next to the copy machine, maybe) but I don't know how to make the reading corner more… comfy? And unified? Also not sure about the amp and rack next to the door, other ideas are welcome.

2nd floor - Gardening room:
Green + Brown. I don't really like it yet. The minimalist tables don't have the right colour, so any better idea is welcome! Don't know about the sofa corner yet either, or any of this room really. I might change it up completely. I want it to look like a private gardening room, with plants and tools and such. Help?

Thanks for reading through, any help would be greatly appreciated!

gardening room:
not sure if it would look too green, but you could use sprout tables: http://moridb.com/items/furniture/sprout-table instead of the minimalist ones for consistency, and at least they'd be plant related? if you want it to look like a gardening room, maybe buy some shovels/watering cans and put them in the room as well?

server room:
yea right now the library area looks really jarring... if you really want to include it, maybe work warmer tones into the rest of your room? and even for the wallpaper, maybe use a wallpaper like the manor wall to help tie the library with the other stuff? also another item you could include is a whiteboard!

kitchen:
personally I think the carpet is too busy.... I'd prefer a simpler one like that carpet that goes with the minimalist series (forgot name sry;;; ) but its up to you! the rest looks nice!

cafe:
it looks a bit... empty? esp near the back, maybe add more furniture? I have a similar room in one of my houses, but I designed it more as a.... gambling/casino room lol you can check out my dream address to see it if you want! it's in the basement of my asian looking house!

bathroom:
if you're planning on using the bath tile/wall set I really suggest using a diff furniture series, since that wallpaper/carpet set is SOOO blue and the exotic series looks a bit odd with it imo. I actually dont like the bath tile/wall much, if you want to use the exotic set why not just use diff wallpaper? the modern screen/exquisite/exotic wallpapers might look nice!

I think all of these rooms look lovely! I especially like the kitchen and gardening room. I'd say put some caught bugs in the gardening room to make it even more lively ;)

I think if you didn't want the cafe in the back, that room would make a nice book area/study.
Just because I think computers and electronics take away from the relaxation a reading nook would offer.
But the cafe is also really well done! I also like how each room seems to gravitate towards a central color scheme.

Anyway, I'm not the best advice/tip giver- I only have one of three rooms decorated in my town. Best of luck, though!

Thanks for the feedback!

Gardening room:
I've been trying to get my hands on the sprout tables, but no luck so far. Is it orderable…?
I'll be adding showels and stuff later, yeah, that's a good idea.

Server room:
Whiteboard is a good idea, I'll get that!
I kinda like the contrast between the cool, gray computer half and the warmer library, but it's a bit unnerving that I can't refurbish the magazine rack to have the same colors as the bookcases, or vice-versa.
Or maybe I could make the book part cold colored too, so that it looks less like a reading nook and more like… well, a workspace too, reference books and stuff. But I don't know, there aren't all that many nice bookcase items?

kitchen:
You mean the neutral floor? It could be nicer, yeah! Wood in a kitchen is kinda weird, tho. Maybe I can get some plain white tiles or something, I'm sure there's an item somewhere. But the floor does make it a lot busier, you're right, I'll look into that.

cafe:
I'll have a look at your house, yeah! I like the Gorgeous set a lot, but the problem I always have is that literally no furniture ever seems to match it. I have no idea what to add to it. But def' gonna check what you did with it, yes!

bathroom:
I kinda like the blue of the bathroom tiles, actually, tho I'm considering using only the floor and putting in wood paneling or sth. But here again, I just feel like wood or carpet in a bathroom is just- uh. Weird. Ah, acnl needs more nice wallpapers and less weird ones xD The modern screen might be nice tho, I'll give it a shot.

Thank you very much for all your advice, you raise some very good points!

@ashubii
Bugs are a good idea, tho most of the bugs have really ugly boxes. Some of the crickets had nice wooden cages, I used to have 2 in my main room. Maybe I should try and catch these again. Any idea if there are other bugs with nice/special boxes, not the default plastic ones?

Also, I want to keep the study and comp room together because I think both should be sorta on the small side, and all my rooms are huge, so I like to break them up. + I'm a computer science student, I don't mind reading in a server room : p But thanks anyway ; )

the sprout table's orderable, it's just a little hard to find bc I think it was only released in japan? I do have it though, so if you can't find it I can let you catalog mine :)

and hmmm yea the library thing... I do remember seeing one dream town where the person had made an office with like a little principal's area in the corner, which is a bit similar to your idea and it looked nice! I'll see if I can remember which one it was/if they still even have that in their house! you could also always move the reading area in your cafe, I think a library would look nice with the gorgeous stuff! but yea, there aren't that many nice office things, which is why I opted out of making an office in my school house haha

yea I just love the neutral floor haha and I think you're right! the ceramic tile and diner tile both have more kitchen like floors, maybe one of those will work? or you could always use a qr code!

yea the gorgeous set just looks soooo... expensive lol I think most houses I've seen that used it either went the dorm room/library route or the casino route haha

I think it'll be fine if you just use one of the bathroom floor/walls, both of them together is quite intense lol though if you wanted to use both you could just add more spa set http://moridb.com/items/sets/spa stuff? like the washbasin and things!

and np hehe glad to help!

Main room - I think it's quite nice! The combination of the red-brown pots and bird cage warms up the room some with all the plants and such. If you want to change it up a little, how about add just a few exotic series items? They would match the red-brown nice. But it's fine how it is.

Bathroom - yes I'd use a different floor probably and add a bathtub. Maybe play with a different wall??

back room cafe - it's nice, but if you want it to match your other rooms (it doesn't need to) but if you do… what if you did an exotic or some type of red-brown casual cafe…? Could be cafe with lots of plants and maybe a tropical or wood lattice wall or something?

basement - you could try to use bookshelves as a partition or use another screen or partition between the desk and the chaise lounge to make them feel more separate? You might have to remove a little furniture though…. GL!

gardening room - I agree the minimalist tables and so many different table colors are a bit jarring. I'd try to limit your furniture colors a little more. Maybe all green ranch tables…? Or use a brown table instead of a "off green" minimalist table?

all personal taste of course!

Thanks both of you for your advice! I'm beat today so I'll give a more constructive answer tomorrow, but yes some good points that's very helpful c:

I really like your main room. The center of the room could use a plant or two to fill the spacious feeling. For your right room, you can customize the lotus lamp to blue so it matches more with the blue/brown theme. Other blue items for this room could include the washbashin and spa chair. Maybe striped blue furniture? Your kitchen looks great. The only thing I can think of to add is maybe another white-type table so you can add more food options atop it. For your office you could possibly use the area on the right as a waiting room by adding the museum's display cases along with trophies or certificates up on the wall to show off your degrees. Aaand you can change the green furniture to more different colors of green. I believe there is light green, dark green and grass green. I think the brown/green color scheme is very nice and earthy. Try lady palms, weeping figs, snake plants and coconut palms.

@nammie

If you don't mind me cataloging yours that would be really nice of you, yes!

and hmmm yea the library thing...
Mhh, if you find the dream town with the principal's area corner I'd love to have a look, that could be good. I might just scrap the library entirely and extend it to more office/server stuff… I thought about putting a music corner there, otherwise, I could always go with that.

yea I just love the neutral floor haha and I think you're right! the ceramic tile and diner tile both have more kitchen like floors, maybe one of those will work? or you could always use a qr code!
I'm out of space for QR codes xD But yeah ceramic tile is nice, or maybe the stone tile as it is nice and gray but with a bit of blue.

The gorgeous set looks like you're swimming in gold, yep x)
Maybe I should just boot it and put either a library or an inhabitant picture gallery there. Might be nice.
EH SO MANY CHOICES

I actually really dislike the spa set, which is why I went with another set. It just feels very- public? I'm trying to make a more private-y bathroom and ok, the room is huge, so it still feels a bit weird, but yeh, the spa one is obviously meant for more people. I changed the wall for the mosaic wall tho and you're right it's nicer than the spa one!
Otherwise, Lurrdoc suggested the stripe set. I'd lose the asian theme but it's the only room that has it anyway, so I dunno, I might try that one too and see if it works.
What did I say about too many choices again? x)

@aimeekitty
I'm having a bathtub refurbished as we speak, so that going in there. And yeah I changed the wall for a mosaic one, def' better!

… Ok tropical cafe sounds like something i definitely need to do, although maybe I'll get another character for that. But yes yes very good idea I'll keep it in mind.

Basement: No space for partitions I'm afraid! Ugh, this room is giving me the most trouble xD But I got some nice ideas from Lurrdoc there, I'll play around with that.

I didn't know the ranch table comes in green? If it does I'm going to go with that, or the sprout table nammie suggested. But yeah the minimalist tables clash, I just wanted to test the various colors but none match.
Brown will be my last resort if I don't find any better.

Thanks for the pointers!

@Lurrdoc
I had all the plants in that room originally, but it started to feel really, really cramped, so I moved some out (no more HHA points but whatever). It does feel a bit empty now but it's kinda hard to balance, since the minimalist set is already so streamlined. I might stuff a plant back in there, or a dice stereo maybe, since the music thing i have atm is a bit too big for the dresser.

Stripe furniture is definitely an option, maybe I'll try it out too. thanks for reminding me about that! I think it's even vaguely bathroom themed, no? It has a sink, in any case.

Museum displays are a great idea I forgot about them! Thanks for that, def' gonna try it out.

And I'm currently refurbishing the green set to dark green, it fits the overall color scheme better, yes. Also gonna add some of these plants when I have the tables figured out, good point.
Thanks for the pointers!

I found it again!! the town is def one of the most beautiful I've seen, so you should check everything out if you have time, but one of their houses (forgot which already sorry oTL found it yesterday) has half a office, and half more.... loungey? like you know how teacher lounges have tables but also sofas and stuff lol... anyway it looks really nice and worked really well!! plus they used the office wall which you were planning to use hehe. Anyway here's their DC! 2800-0140-5359 I def got some inspiration from them :)

I have two... "bath" rooms in one of my houses, since I was inspired by the bathhouse in spirited away, you can check it out if you want, but yea since yours is bigger it might be harder to work with (didn't expand mine all of the way) like you said. The striped set would look nice with it though!

and you can def come catalog my sprout table sometime, just lemme know when :)

Oh man, your house is really charming! Overall it's really nice *__* I got a little overboard with suggestions because I'm really into interior stuff:

Main room - I like how simple and cute it is! You don't want it to get too crowded in here, but you could add some flowers? Jacob's ladders would definitely look nice. I think there are some stools you can put in here that would mesh well too (and some you could customize if you wanted some pops of color).

Bathroom - This is really different from a lot of bathrooms I've seen! I actually like your floor a lot and if it were my room, I would keep it and actually change out the bath wall to something that matches better. The taurus bathtub might look nice in here, and/or the whirlpool bath. If you want more of a spa feel, you could use the bucket or leave a bathrobe in the room?

Caf? - This one's tough. What if you kept it a caf? but started leaning it away from the gorgeous series? I feel like it's the wall and floor that clash the most with your house. It may also help to start creeping some plants and flowers in here, I think it would unify it with the house better. What if you made a princess cafe instead? I think the colors might work better. The princess series also has a birdcage that would go with the one in your main room.

Kitchen - Very cute! I wouldn't mess with this room too much either. If you wanted, you could always tinker with the customization of the alpine stuff for a different feel to the room.

Basement - Oooh, I love rooms that are split up. Your office side is really amazing! You set yourself up for a bit of a challenge with the book nook because you have this very kind of?industrial clinical florescent workspace feel but reading corners are usually more warm and cozy. I'd really block it off with more bookshelves along the office desks and get a lamp that gives off warmer light over on that side. There are many bookshelves in the game, you could try out some different ones down here too. Since you have a large magazine rack, you could also put the small one. You might want a more cozy or cute style for couches/furniture over here. I have a book nook in my house and I use the patchwork stuff.
tumblr_n3leym5w1C1sw6w9uo1_400.jpg
Striped or polka dot might be nice too, and you can customize them a lot of ways. Also, you can never have too many plants and flowers ;D ALSO TEDDY BEARS
I feel like your corner with the amp and the cd rack is kind of becoming it's own music corner. You could put a karaoke system, some kind of music player, and maybe a musical instrument over here. It feels separate from the reading space, but that's not a bad thing.

Gardening room - I like this idea a lot! I think maybe it could use a little bit of brightening up? It might be cool if you started putting in pieces from the insect and the mush series. In particular I'm thinking about the caterpillar sofa, the firefly lamp, the mush table, the mush end table, the mush wall lamp, and the mini butterfly table. I'd keep playing with the arrangements until you felt like you had a "workspace" kind of area for gardening. Think about how your basement office is arranged and kind of apply that here maybe?

- - - Post Merge - - -

Also I forgot to mention, if you display an ant, it displays as a little ant farm! That might work for you.

Oh man both you guys brought amazing suggestions. Thank you /so much/ you are being super helpful! I'll try to take photos of the updated bathroom (switched a few things around and I like it better already) tomorrow, if I get around to do it.

@nammie
I went to see that town and while it's not too much my style I liked it a lot and the office room you mentioned is amazing (I sneaked lots of pictures muahaha). I'll see what I can do with it, but it's really good advice!

For the bathroom, the way you separated yours is actually nice, I might rework mine like that if I ever aquire the whirlpool.

Also, thank you very much for the sprout table, I'll change up my top room with these tomorrow! (01:00am, nooklings are very much closed right now x) )

@stardrop
Thanks a bunch for all the advice ;A; Don't worry about going overboard lots of advice is good!

Main room - yeh I'm trying to keep it a bit on the streamlined side, maybe to contrast with the garden room. Jakob Ladders are a great suggestion tho how did I not think of them earlier!
I might change the marshmallow chair for a stool, if I can change the stools to white…? The cushion and marshmallow chair always bothered me a bit, the first because you can't sit on it and the second because it's tinted pink and doesn't actually merge all that well. Some small chair might be a good solution.

Bathroom - I changed the walls to mosaic, actually! I need to take a new picture because I also added a bath and moved some of the furniture. I don't have the taurus bath or the whirlpool, tho I'm trying to hunt down the latter atm!
I'm also trying to get the bathrobe, yeah, because it would definitely add to it!

Caf? - Right now I'm leaning strongly toward dumping the cafe completely (it makes no sense having a cafe in a house anyway?) and making it a picture room for villager pics and such. The princess birdcage is a good tip in any case tho, I keep wanting to buy it and never knowing what to do with it. And white/blue color scheme should work nicely, too, so I'll probably go with that.

Kitchen - Actually, all the alpine stuff is customized to match the wall ;) I'm starting to wonder if the default wood color wouldn't have fit better, but eeeh, I'm not running back and forth to Re-Tail anymore, I did too much refurbishing lately.

Basement - Yesss split rooms. The biggest room size is almost too big for me (I mean my kitchen is split too) but I want to not have nook on my back ever again so I went ahead and extended everything.
I am glad you like the office side, tho! It was heavily inspired by a hackerspace I know, and I tried to get the "squashed between servers and a ton of computers/laptops" feel down. I think I need some sloppy items in there, too, but they don't pop up in my town x)
Your book nook looks quite nice! The patchwork series are really cute, I like how squishy they feel. I might go with that since I don't like the polka-dot ones much. Also, yes indeed flowers and teddy bears, very good points B)
Probably gonna make a music corner, yeah! I need to get my hands on some sort of electric guitar, and maybe a sloppy stereo to add to the cramped space feeling.

Gardening room - Spoiler I stole the idea from someone. Or several people actually. But yes it is very nice 8D
I'm seriously wishing I'd have kept my mush items, because it's gonna be a while 'till these pop up again. Good point. As for bug items they're on my checklist, next bug-off I'm spamming that chameleon! All the items you named would make really good additions tho. Maybe I can aquire them from other people here. I'll try!
I have a rough plan for that room (Tables with plants/flowers on the left, working/resting area on the right) but I need a whole load of weeding-day and bug-off items (and now mush T-T) and they're not gonna be easy to get. Ah well, no fun without a challenge, amirite?

As for the ants, I saw that in nammie's town today and YES CUTE I'm catching some ants tomorrow.

glad my suggestions helped!! and YES the ants are so cute in their little ant farm!! I love when bugs/fish have their own special cage/bowl lol (cough goldfish and seahorse too!!)

I'd love to see you post pics when you update :)

The sprout table isn't JP only, I got it from Pelly O_o

^must be recent then, it was released in japan in 2013 and I got it from someone in 2013 lol
