For a long time now, I've been stuck on a 1-star rating.
I have no idea what i'm doing wrong. My eighth villager is moving in soon, and I have a little bit of fences around my island, and flowers are everywhere around my island. There's also some furniture around as well.

What am I doing wrong...?
Anyone know how I can get it the fastest?

I got to 5 stars pretty easy (With a little time traveling) but first you won't get out of 1 star rating until you get ten villagers.

Second, variety in fencing and furniture. Don't use just like 300 of the same type of fencing, mix it up a bit. (IIRC you need around 360 pieces of fencing, and try to place neatly)

Third, have a mix of crafted and non-crafted furniture! Variety is important! Don't put down 10 of the same furniture items, have some different items (This is a bit tough if you don't have many recipes, so make sure you check your beach everyday for message bottles and check your villager's houses to see if they're making something!)

Also, you may have to wait for the Nook's Cranny to upgrade as well as build the Tailor's.

No offense to the person above me but I didn't really need to do all of that to get my three star ranking. I think you only need to have eight villagers as that is what boosted me to three stars. I had two stars once I had six villagers. I definitely didn't have the nook cranny upgrade and I still don't but I might've had Able Sister's.

I think it mainly lies within having a fair amount of furniture on the island. I've never heard anything about crafted and non-crafted furniture specifically, just above a certain number. I also really only had a little bit of fencing around my house and one other villager's. So I'd say make sure there aren't a lot of weeds and keep placing furniture. Obviously you'd like the furniture on your island to look nice and coordinated but I don't think you need to stress too much about it.

If all else fails try doing some googling and checking out all those articles about island rankings, they helped me :)

What really helps is having max villagers but having at least 8 can do the trick as well. Pull all your weeds and set down a lot of furniture outside as well as flowers. Thats what helped me boost to 3 stars. The type of furniture doesn't matter. You just need some furniture placed outside and it'll help. Fences are also pretty important, honestly I think fences were the biggest contributor for me getting 3 stars.

Just place down all of the furniture your villagers give you in preparation for the KK slider concert, plant some flowers and have all the fruit trees. The 3 star rating wasn't too bad. My villagers basically carried me to 3 stars by giving me stuff. Good luck.

I suppose what I said matters more with getting over 3 stars LOL

Yeah. Five starts is much harder than three, from what I've heard.

And for OP: I got three stars today. I removed a large amount of weeds, and waited for my eighth villager to arrive. I also placed down a bunch of furniture I had sitting in my storage, placed 50 pieces of fencing around my town, and planted a good amount of flowers. I placed the furniture and fencing haphazardly, but apparently it was enough to get three stars.
