So yesterday I was playing Animal Crossing New Leaf as per usual and everything was working fine. A bit later I changed over to a different game and played it for a bit. A lot later I then changed games back to New Leaf and all of a sudden it's not working any more.

The 3DS still recognises that the New Leaf card is in there and it starts up fairly normally but just before I get to the title screen I get a message that says "An error has occurred forcing the software to close" and then the 3DS restarts. I've tried blowing on it, wiping it, changing games (no problems with the other games), there doesn't seem to be any damage on the card itself. My 3DS is quite old now so I thought that it might be the problem but with my other games working and without another 3DS to test on I can't be sure.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and/or knows of a possible solution for it. I don't want to let it end this way.

Oh, that's bad. :( Have you bought your game on the internet? Was it used?

No, I got it brand new a couple of years ago from a game store

Try cleaning the pins of the game, and the console, if that doesn't work then try it in another console if possible, otherwise try getting a 3ds Powersaves, and backup the save.

Oh... As Rando said, first, try it on another 3DS. The powersave is another option.

Have you tried pressing ABXY at the same time, while your game loads? I know it's for erasing all your date, but if you can't try on another 3DS or buy a powersave, it's an option. :(

Try cleaning the pins with alcohol. I always use spirit, since that seems to be found in every household here. Get a little of it on a q-tip and gently clean the cart, if the problem is dirt related this should surely help.

I've been trying to clean it and found a handy video showing how to take the card out of the case without damaging it. Sadly still no luck, I take good care of my games there doesn't seem to be any damage so hopefully it's just that this game just won't work on my 3DS because of how old it is and when I can manage to borrow a friend's 3DS it'll be fine.

Thanks for all your advice guys :)

Have you tried to clean the 3DS' game slot then?

I own 2 3DSes and one is old as well, it has trouble recognizing games very often (my new one does that too but mostly with only some of the carts) but cleaning usually helps a bit. I've never seen an error like yours though, for me it just doesn't show the game is inserted.

cleaned it, unfortunately still no success, will keep trying though

Unfortunately, I don't think the Powersaves can backup a game and restore it on a different cartridge. I heard all save files were linked to a specific cartridge. Also, if your 3DS can't read the cartridge, the Powersaves probably can't either :(

Keep trying and don't give up! Maybe go to a nearby video game store to see if they have any product to clean? I know my local store once repaired a game CD that wouldn't work anymore. I know cartridges are more complicated, but there may be some cleaning products for this purpose.

Has I said, have you tried pressing ABXY ? You would lose your data, but at least the game will work.

I don't think it's a problem of cartridge, since the 3DS still recognises the game
on the home screen. But it could be a corruption problem?

I agree with Pixr seeing as anything physical didn't work. Did you quit the game abnormally when you played? Such as closing fast after saving, etc.

Not sure how much truth is in that, but I've heard it's best not to close the game before it loads the title screen after saving.
