Hedge DIY question

So I restarted maybe a week or so ago on my island, I want the hedge DIY recipe but is the only way to get it to talk to Nook after doing the nature day miles thing? I didn’t really want to TT this time around but if this the only way to get it then I will. Thanks

I got mine after buying bushes from Leif after he visited a couple times when Nature Day had already passed.
