having multiple copies?

hello, i was wondering if there would be any data overlap if someone had a digital copy and a physical copy of ACNL that they used the same 3ds for? ;w; i was considering getting a physical copy for a second town, but i know that the digital copies of the game save some of their data to the 3ds itself (not just the SD card). i lost my old town because i didn't know that, so i'm worried that for some reason a physical cartridge might do the same?
does anyone know if it's safe to have a digital cartridge + a physical copy of the game on the same 3ds is what i'm asking, i guess. ;w;

It is safe to have both the downloaded copy and the game cartridge copy on the same 3DS. (Not sure why no one bothered to answer this, though. 18 views and I'm the only one to answer it. Really? It's a type of question that has been answered many times, but it's not nice to ignore someone that needs help.)

When I had the AC:NL XL, I had a physical and digital copy.
Don't worry, the data will not overlap.
