I'm just curious to see how many people in the TBT community have been scammed or stolen from in ACNL. It could be that you had gotten hybrids stolen from, items, etc, or gotten scammed with villagers, bells...anything. For me, I have. I've gotten mostly hybrids stolen from, some items, and a few others. How about you guys?
Almost did one time on tumblr. I was giving out free landscaping stuff I wasn't using and this one person was all it took to ruin it. They were being bad with communication and keep me waiting over a hour after opening my gates despite them saying I'll be right there. Upon getting there, they wanted me to deliver the stuff to their town so I said no. They took 20 minutes to decide on what free stuff to take on my beach. I had at least 5 more people waiting in line to visit. Right after they decided, I told them I'd end the session. Person said not to and they'll go to the gate. Fine, since I have people waiting anyway.
I follow him out of the beach and he is clearly not going to the gate. I warned them again to stop wandering and he starts running. I have hybrids almost everywhere except for my path. Then he starts pleading he'll leave on his own but I'm not buying it. I start to panic at this point so I ended the session. I probably should have flipped the switch but didn't think to. v.v
Thankfully, nothing was destroyed or stolen. I found spoiled turnips on my beach at the corner where the cliff bends. It was such a weird visit tbh. Said person is banned from visiting my town.
Now I'm super strict with people and no longer wait more than 10 minutes unless they keep in contact. I don't care if people get annoyed if I follow them everywhere. You do what you gotta do to protect your town. :/
I've had people give me less bells than they should have when buying something from me, but most of the time it's not by much. Usually it's a normal mistake like dropping 5 99k bell bags when paying for something that's 50k. It's a little short but it's not worth calling it a scam, really.
Not on this board but somewhere else. Person didn't read the bulletin board and was picking perfect fruit from the trees.
Caught them running into the locker and when I looked at the trees half were gone. Asked for them back and than deleted them from my FC. Most annoying thing was they didn't replace the dead tree.
Not on Belltreeforum, but people met on islands that seemed nice at first sight but invaded my town like barbarians. Here it was not really a scam, I won an auction, sent the bells but the person was kind of busy and after more than an hour of waiting for the trade, I had to go to bed so we rescheduled the trade but I got the timezone wrong and missed it (I had even confirmed the hour with that person and she had never told me I was wrong), and never saw that person again. So I lost my items and more than 200 TBT, but the person never came back on the website either so they couldn't do anything with those TBT, therefor I don't think it was intentional.
I've had to many attempted thieveries to count on both hands. Three examples:
-I had this one friend who was EXTREMELY wishy-washy, and on several occasions, she tried to steal hybrids from me. (This was back when I was a fairly new player, too...)
-I once decided to play with this guy in my first secondary town, YumStar, and he made a huge ruckus in my town: he ran over flowers, shook all of my perfect orange trees that were completely surrounded by flowers, and constantly denied that he did those things. My best ACNL friend thankfully trapped him just as he was trying to leave so I could disconnect.
-I met this one girl, and at the beginning she seemed very nice, so we played together and decided to meet in my town the very next day. I was so busy that we never met the next day...or the next few weeks after that. One day, while I was waiting for a trader, the girl comes over. I said sorry to her that we couldn't meet recently, and as I said it, I noticed that all of my hybrids surrounding the train area went missing, so I disconnected at the sight of that.
So yeah, I'm rather careful when it comes to letting people into my town.
nah that's never happened to me. i usually follow people around my town like a hawk.
unless you're a close friend and i know you well enough to let you just roam my town.
like kai, he could steal my hybrids but i wouldn't care bc he's my ghost bro.
My town is literally bait for thieves, it seems. I leave lots of stuff lying around because I don't have enough storage. I tell people they can tell me what they want and I might give it to them, but no, they have to be greedy b*stards and steal. Once, someone just came in and trampled all of my flowers while I was away.
Since then I've been way more careful when people visit.
I really only use this forum, so no.
Having the wifi rating helps. People could easily make fake accounts I guess, but I certainly wouldn't let them into my town if they looked sketchy.
I wouldn't cal it a scam, but on the island this dude was giving out millions of bells, and I got around 10mil. I said thanks, gave him my spare crown, and tried to leave. All I got was a "haha loser" and a wifi switch.
Dang, I've never had any of these horrible things happen to me. I'm really sorry whoever experienced theft
Everyone on TBT has been great to trade with. Though I never trade items really, just villagers.
I've been lucky that it's never happened to me. But I'm horribly paranoid and I've traded like 5-6 times in 3 years.
Too anxious and paranoid to go to Club Tortimer either, I went there once about a year ago. Wasn't even a bad experience, really.
