Have some villagers names changed?

The rainbow bird villager Jacob was staying at my campsite today and I noticed it said that his name was Jakey? I swear he used to be called Jacob and I'm wondering if they have changed it. Has this happened with other villagers too? And is someone able to confirm if his name used to be Jacob?

According to the Animal Crossing Wiki, the newest update, not sure which one that was, his name was changed to Jakey in the PAL version. The US version his name is still Jacob.
