I'm the master of not seeing the red light until it's blinking, and the 3ds dying when I have the charger about a millimeter from plugging it in.

and I only play at home so there's always a charger.

I've fallen asleep while playing acnl quite a few times and my DS tends to be off te charger when I do.
so it's died a few times like that.

otherwise, when the red light comes on, I either plug it in (if there's a charger near me) or turn it off (if I'm not home)
