Just a fun little question for you all 
Has anyone ever had a group of best friends come over to help you dig up fish bait?

Sort of. My S/O and I alternate between fishing and digging up fish bait when we're trying to catch the uncommon or rare fish that only spawn at the pier or in ponds. It makes the process a whole lot more fun, in my opinion! I imagine it would be even more fun with a larger group of friends.

I did for the first fishing tourney! A bunch of my friends and I met up in the game to fish and we were all running around digging up clams and crafting. It's been a while since we did but it was a super fun day!

Sounds awesome. I really wish more of my close friends IRL played Animal Crossing, but for now it's just me and my sister and it's a little hard doing something like this via couch co-op as one of would just have all the fish we catch get sent to the donation and we would keep having to switch the role of leader for the fishing tourney

Not to say I wouldn't, but I never have. lol, I don't use fish bait, though I may start because I have a feeling that some fish may not be able to be caught without it.
I'm almost positive this wouldn't be true, though I admit it does feel like it is at times

Oh and honestly, I don't think my sister would enjoy digging up fish bait as much anyway as she is not as into hardcore fishing as I am. XD
