Harvest Moon DS

I'm seriously considering on buying Harvest Moon DS (again). I used to own it when I was about 10 but I found it so difficult that I gave up on it and sold it to a friend after a couple years for about $20. It was a pretty rough experience as it was my first ever Harvest Moon and it completely turned me off the Harvest Moon series completely. I did eventually get back into the series but not until A New Beginning came out.

Now, fast forwarding to today I now have Animal Parade, The Tale of Two Towns, A New Beginning, and Story of Seasons. But I'd really like to give DS another shot. Plus I'm finding the newer games are too easy for me now that I'm 19 (I do still enjoy them though), so maybe DS is more at my level. Not to mention I'm a pretty experienced Harvest Moon Player by now unlike the clueless 10 year old I once was.

So what do you guys think? Should I buy Harvest Moon DS again? It'd cost me about $20 (new) to buy it which is what I sold my original copy for anyways so not a big deal. I know many of you will suggest to go with Sunshine Islands, Island of Happiness or even DS Cute instead as they are less buggy, but I feel nostalgia for DS (not to mention Leia the Mermaid!). DS Cute makes more sense for me as I am in fact a girl, but like I said I played the boy version and honestly the bachelors in Cute aren't all that exciting to me. I also make a girl and boy file in the newer games anyways so I'm totally cool with playing as a guy. xD

I shall wholeheartedly recommend you purchase Harvest Moon DS if you have either played Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town or Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town as it is very much a nostalgia trip of the original GBA titles above.

If you really don't mind the glitches, Harvest Moon DS is one of my absolute favorites. I've been playing HM games forever and this game is easily my 2nd favorite HM game ever. The story is good and there's so much to do. It is definitely not "easy" like A New Beginning, there are tons of challenges and it makes the story last for a long time and gives you a lot to do. I think you would really like it if you like more of the older HM games because DS has more of the older HM feel to it.

I know the nostalgia factor is always going to come into play, but I'm just going to warn you, my Harvest Moon DS game was so glitched that no matter what I did, I couldn't get married on any file I created. It wouldn't let me see heart events and even when a girl was at a red heart, she wouldn't marry me. It was super frustrating and I ended up just getting DS Cute which didn't have a single problem for me and I still play it to this day.

But if you really are set on DS, I say go for it! I love the game, and I think you would too!

HMDS was my first Harvest Moon too! I was dead set on marrying Celia but never did because, like you, I was ten and couldn't get all the sprites I needed, even with the help of Fogu.

I'd get it. Even with all the glitches, it's a great game, although I do find collecting the sprites tedious after awhile. HMDSC is also a good one (I actually managed to get married lol), with less glitches and more customizing opportunities if that interests you. Of course, you can also woo bachelors in HMDSC, so if there's one gender you'd prefer over the other, you may want to get that version.

I'd also recommend getting either FoMT or MFoMT with it. They're also great games on their own, but you can insert the Mineral Town games into your GBA slot of the original DS (assuming you have one) and gain access to those bachelors and bachelorettes as well. The only downside is that, if you're playing HMDS, your game ends when you marry a Mineral Town bachelorette, but otherwise, it's a nice feature.

Yes I do have an older DS that has the GBA slot. I've heard a lot about Mineral Town, but I'd like to give DS a go again first as I have played it before and would like to succeed with it where I majorly failed in the past. Mineral Town will definitely be a possibility eventually. ^.^

Harvest Moon DS Cute was my first Harvest Moon game actually, but if you want to go for Harvest Moon DS, go for it!
