With the harvest festival coming up I have prepared myself by reading as much as I could on line. I see that Franklin asks for some fruits that I don't have yet. I also see that you can get them from the villager "chefs" by giving them fish. My question is, can I get more than I need for the recipe so I can plant them in my town? Also, since I haven't played this event yet even though I have pled NL for many years on and off, any good tips to know before hand?

Yes, you can get as many fruit from the villagers as you want. When I first started playing New Leaf, on my first Harvest Festival I saved up all the fish and other ingredients so that I could get extra fruit to plant in my town. The Harvest Festival is probably the quickest way to get all the missing fruit you need like, cherries and apples and whatever else. I would start saving up some fish and catch them early so it would be easier to do the event.

I've had villagers ask for the same fish a lot before I finally got the special item.
Dace and rainbow trout are two fish that aren't on the list. Some of my villagers requested them.

Villagers love giving me fruit on the Harvest Festival despite the fact that my town has had that fruit for yeeaaarrrsssssssss. So yes, you will get plenty of fruit from the villagers.
Also, mine like the black bass and snappers. Another thing, catch a few lobsters before the season. Franklin asks for that for Tom Yung Gung or somethin like that, and when I looked it up, lobsters weren't in season. So I never caught one and never got to finish the Harvest Festival that day.

Actually, lobsters are in season all year round, so there really shouldn't be any trouble finding them and they can also be found on the island a lot easier too.
