So, i cut all my tree' down (except for the 5 palms either side), removed flowers and bushes from the island to get the expensive bugs.....hardly any have spawned?? the only ones i get are tiny and run on the ground.

Some people say to cut down most of the trees, too. I used this guide:

You're being too impatient.

They spawn during the evening/night. Make sure that ALL flowers and bushes have been removed from the island, so that butterflies and other insects do not spawn.

Also, I'd recommend using only 4 trees. 2 Either side.

You're forgetting that they're rare bugs. They're not going to spawn every second lmao..

If they don't appear, exit the island and go back into the stall (where the Kapp'n family is). Go back out, do another round on the island, and repeat.

I still have some bushes & 1 lychee tree on the grass, and I still get the rare bugs often enough to make me 300k-400k in an hour, so just go back into the hut to reset what's outside. Granted, some days just seem better than others, so yea, it takes luck & patience as well. ^^
