So my hair is really long, but I don't want to cut it. Unfortunetly daily activity often gets it tangled in tons of knots. It's a huge pain to comb through my hair every day, especially in the summer, when I'm swimming a lot. I guess I probably don't take care of my hair as well as I should... Anyone else here have hair problems?

I guess it would be easier if you cut it just a bit or if you're brave cut it short. I suggest putting coconut oil on it about once a week and don't wash your hair every day, it works miracles. I used to have hair problems but it's so much better now.

I actually don't wash my hair every day, I thought that was one of the problems :P
Ill try the coconut oil.

You can use some spray on detangler. They might sell some at dollar tree.

My friends like to pat my head and ruffle their hands throughout my hair, making it a huge mess. It's short, so it sticks out everywhere.

I also have really long hair (around 30" last I checked) and am involved in athletics, so I definitely understand how much it can get in the way of things! If you're a swimmer, I'd recommend investing in a good detangler or leave-in conditioner and applying it to your hair before and after you swim, and also wearing a tight braid (or french braids if you know how) anytime you're going to be in the water. Also, try combing a fair bit of normal conditioner through your hair after you get out of the pool and before you attempt to comb or brush it, assuming you plan to shower afterwards of course.

But yeah, braids are the way to go. I'd probably have an ostrich nest on my head if braids weren't a thing and I left my hair down during my outdoor runs. Give it a try!

Like others said, detangler and tying it up can help. You could also invest in trying out detangling brushes and combs. My hair is SUPER thick and gets tangly easily (especially when it was longer), and this thing is a godsend for me. I mainly got it for wet hair, but it works just fine with dry.

Also, if you're too lazy to braid your hair for swimming, you could just tie a ponytail every few inches around your hair. That's what my mama would do for my hair as a kid (and it reached my butt back then).

As for me...my hair problem used to be just having long hair + good god the thickness, but now it just falls below my shoulders. But still, the THICKNESS. Layers aren't helping.

I understand your pain. I have extremely curly hair so the summer doesn't do me any justice. :c It starts to get frizzy and once the wind hits...I need a paper bag.

When I was a kid I had really long hair so I know this pain. It got to the point that I was yanking hairballs out while combing it, and it hurt a lot, too. I decided on cutting it eventually, and I lost somewhere around 18 inches of hair! My head felt so much more free from all the weight, too, so that was a bonus aside the huge knots. Since I started getting bobs I have found I just can't have long hair anymore no matter how much I want it. Oh well.

1) Cut your hair. If you haven't had your hair cut in ages then this is most likely the problem. Sometimes just having your hair trimmed will get rid of all of those nasty split ends and make your hair all healthy again.

2) Tie your hair up if you know you're going to be outside and doing activities, like playing sports or even going swimming. Honestly it will make your hair much less tangly.

3) If all else fails, buy a deep conditioning product and apply that to your hair. Chances are your hair might be a bit damaged and dried out hence why it's tangled. So use a deep conditioning treatment, leave it on your hair for like 5 minutes (or however long it tells you to leave it on your hair), then wash it out. It should leave it feeling all nice and soft and smooth.

Trim it, braid it and put up into a pony tail, use a leave-in conditioner after showers/swimming which should help with the tangles. There's one for $3 (well in usa): aussie's 3 minute miracle (frizz, moist, shine, etc. pick whatever desired effect you want), works well and is inexpensive. maybe use it 2-3x a week, depending on how bad your hair is. of course, you can cut down after that!

My hair is to my hips and I have sooo many issues with it. But refuse to cut, it's my security blanket and when I straighten it (its naturally wavy) I feel like a mermaid, heh

Especially now in the summer when its hot and humid my hair just turns into a beast. It's the biggest pain to brush, it's 99% of the time in a bun, braid or pony. It's the biggest pain in the behind.

But again..I refuse to cut it :P

The only thing that keeps my hair from being completely bat sh** crazy is using coconut oil. Saturating my hair with it before washing it. It keeps it soft and more manageable. But don't use it if you have thin hair, it's too heavy on thin hair. It's my hairs lifesaver.

Get a proper brush or two (one for getting tangled hair straight and one for just brushing), use conditioner/hair treatment and cut off the split ends(yourself if you can)

It's weird. When I was younger and had long hair, I'd get a bunch of knots and tangles in the back. But my hair is really long rn and I almost never have a problem with tangles and I never even comb my hair. Anyway, someone suggested braiding it and I think that sounds like a good solution. Or I mean, really just cut it.

If you don't want to lose the length, I do suggest just trimming the hair. Getting rid of split ends really decreases the amount of tangles you will get. And also, don't shampoo the ends of your hair as it dries them out and makes split ends more common. Another really good thing to do is at the end of washing your hair, make sure you run cold water over your hair. It closes up the ends of the hair, locks in moisture from conditioning, and keeps split ends from happening.

It's tough to say "yeah, just put up your hair" because rubber bands can cause a lot of breakage in your hair and make it more tangled, but it's really the best way to keep it from bugging you. I also tend to wear a lot of headbands because I just can't stand when my hair gets in my face and they don't cause hair breakage. I hope this helped :)

Use a really good conditioner.

You have a tip for me? My hair isnt poofy its very flat.. ._.

I have the exact same problem. My hair is down to my butt and it gets so tangly when it's wet that I kind of avoid swimming, or if I do swim I definitely don't put my head underwater. Unfortunately I don't have any tips for you, being an extremely low maintenance person and having extremely high maintenance hair don't mix well but I'm not cutting it so I just have to deal with it haha. I should probably look into de-tanglers etc., but for right now the most I do is use intensive repair shampoo and conditioner because my hair breaks so easily.

Also, if you're going to swim gather all your hair into the top of your head and twist it into a bun, and put an elastic around it. This works pretty well (as long as you're not putting your head underwater I guess) and it's super easy to do and looks fine, I can do it without even looking in a mirror and I never need pins to hold it in place so it's an easy hairstyle for the low maintenance girl lmao
