Hacking

I also think that as long as the person is not using hacks in order to sell items or villagers, and just wants to make their town aesthetically pleasing, they should be able to enjoy their game as they see fit.

I don't like, though, when I visit a dream town that is so heavily hacked with connected trees and bushes that it's next to impossible to walk around. Don't do that to your visitors if you want them to have a good time...

I don't mind it, I personally haven't done it but I don't think it's "wrong".

Some hacked towns can look really amazing, I love visiting them, especially really creative hacked towns. I do find towns that simply have random things everywhere nd have just hacked it to be as weird as possible usually not interesting, but that's just my opinion and I still don't think it's wrong, people can do whatever they want with their town.

A person hacking doesn't effect another person's game whatsover. People are free to have whatever opinion they have, but it's pretty silly to get all bent out of shape over something that will have no effect on you. I do think it's hypocritical for someone to claim to have done everything the "hard way" when they actually cheated for it, but at the same time I can understand them getting all hypocritical if it means avoiding an argument with someone that is strongly against hacking.

I don't see the point (for me). Part of the fun of the game, for me, is working to achieve goals.

I would never do it myself, partly because it sounds too complicated and easy to mess up and partly because I question the legality of messing with the games files that way, but I don't think it's morally wrong. I absolutely love seeing hacked villagers, like I've seen someone who made a villager out of Toriel from Undertale, and another one where someone filled up their town with villagers hacked to be the Eeveelutions.

powersaves and other editing tools are completely fine and can be used to help other people like when someone clones villagers and gives them away for free so others wont have to pay a disgustingly high price for them

Oh, wow. I didn't know people could do that!

I hack the save file for my new town, never done anything like that to my original town though (the one in my signature) I don't spawn items in or anything, the only thing I do is move plants/pwps etc to where they normally wouldn't be able to be placed.

Hacking annoys me. I don't do it and I love visiting dream towns where they have naturally created their town. Hacking just ruins the game. It's not hard to create the perfect town you want when everyone else has worked hard! I do not believe in it as it ruins the fun of the game as you can just unlock shops and pwps... where is the fun in that?! Some small things can be useful like bush limits but even then you're just defying how the game works. What's the point in having a beach full of bushes or rivers with houses in? It is creative but in my opinion I would not do it as the game would get very boring.

The reason the rules for PWPs and bushes and trees etc, are there in the first place is to stop the dumbest of the players from doing stupid sh!t, like trapping themselves.
I agree though, spawning in stuff, or unlocking stuff through cheating ruins the game, no fun in that.
But I think it's okay to move stuff to where they normally wouldn't be able to, and that's what I do in my new town.

I love hacked towns actually and sometimes hacked towns are much more beautiful than normal towns. For example is the bamboo shoot and flowers in the water. How cool is that? I visited a hacked town once that had a jungle themed town and tbh, it really felt like i was in a jungle compared to normal towns with a jungle theme.

i mean if i could do it i would...just for landscaping purposes though. i love visiting dream towns with cedars everywhere, lots of bushes, clovers, plants or PWPs in the river, PWPs/buildings/homes on the beach, special holiday displays out year-round, etc.

it doesn't really bother me what other ppl do with their game.

ik! i've seen some really pretty towns, but then i unfortunately couldn't really explore them as much as i wanted to bc i got annoyed trying to find a pathway.

I have a Power save; I got one after my hubby's first town corrupted (he has physical copies of the game) and I got so scared the same thing would happen to me and being able to make backup files helps put my mind at ease.

I've always been mildly interested in hacking towns for landscaping purposes, and at least one of our 3DSes still has firmware low enough to attempt it, but I'd be terrified of killing my cartridge or something.

So instead I just work with what I have. Balamb has wayyyyy too many dead zones for planting stuff, but Bunifrey only ended up with a small handful and they aren't in super obvious places so I deal with it.

In general I am against hacking, because it is unarguably cheating and damaging to Nintendo. If you use hacks to do things that should be possible, though, I tolerate it. With things that should be possible I'm talking about that bridge with enough space around it, a bush diagonally touching a pwp/building, a pwp on an edge of something (with enough space except for the corners, while you could still walk on it) and so on.

For the most part, I don't mind hacked towns. A lot of them can look very nice & there's a lot of nice people willing to help.

I dislike hacked towns that are almost impossible to walk around and explore in (a stump/bush on every other step for example); I don't get how it wouldn't drive the creator crazy squeezing by everything on a daily basis tbh. I've heard of some hackers who copied other people's dream towns exactly and that's really awful. Some people have no shame. Or when hackers claim they worked harder on their towns than legitimate ones. :/

Other than that, I'm okay with hacked towns. At the end of the day, I'd much rather visit legit towns. It sounds weird, but I get more inspiration with regular towns than hacked ones. Knowing that they had to work with the game's limits and imperfections and still making it look amazing at the end are that much more inspirational.

True, but for people like me who already finished a town legit, and had to deal with all those limitations, it's fun to finally be able to make the town to the design you want, instead of being stopped every 3 steps of the way, and having the design you wanted destroyed by limitations, it's just nice to be able to do what you want now, if you want you can visit my first town (code in my signature), I'm basically done with it.

(if there's anyone new to the game though I'd recommend playing the first town legit until you're done with it, it's more limiting, but also more fun, and then after you've finished the vanilla experience you can go all out with your creativity in a second town, that's my recommendation anyways).

i dont really find any problem with it. do what you want with your cartridge, you bought it, its yours. for all i care someone could shove their cartridge up their ass if they were so inclined

LOL. I completely agree. Even if you want to hack your town into the ugliest town in existence, it's still your town, do what you want with it.

If they are doing it to troll players, heck no! If it's just for fun and just doing it to your town, it's fine.

so nice that so many of you told me your opinions ;v; i personally think its allright unless they hack to get stuff and sell them to others -_- and not gonna lie, if my 3ds wasnt at version 11 now, i'd probably give it a try myself just for decorating purposes.. *still hoping someone will fix that*

I do hack: backup files, bushes, palmtrees, and cedars in spots where they wouldn't grow, villager placement, small changes on the map, plants in water maybe sometime

I would not hack: Items, villagers, money, badges, pwps, stores (all those things would take away any fun for me), anything that causes glitching

I think hacking for decorative purpose is fine.

Hacking to achieve things or get money/villagers/stuff is just pointless in my opinion, because then there's no point in playing and I enjoy the community working together and having to look for villagers and items. That would be like Pok?mon where you don't have to battle anyone and have all Pok?mon from the start - pointless and lame.

Hacking to brag about what you have and acting like you did it without, selling hacked items and villagers and harming other people with it in any way is not acceptable.
