I'm putting down my paths right now and trying to figure out where I should put my villager houses.

Okay, I was thinking of putting 5 houses behind my house in that large open space but there are two rocks there. I mean, they aren't really in the way, although one is preventing me from putting 6 houses back there. So five houses behind me in this kind of a pattern

x is houses
o is where the rock is

Now for the other 5 houses, I'm trying to figure out where some good spots are. Because I'm also thinking ahead to my permanent PWP like the police station, cafe and campsite. That bridge is going to be moved over to the right so it can be centered with the plaza and that little area on the bottom right is where my lighthouse is going to be when I get one.

Any ideas?

Let me think... Since I can't see everything in your layout map (rocks, etc.), I can only give some guesswork advice:

-I'd recommend only 4 houses placed behind your house below the river for the time being, and spread them out a bit left and right. That is due to the strange acre rule that villagers won't move into 16 x 16 acres occupied my 3 buildings already.

-The town hall is also a good place to put homes beside. Maybe 1 home on each side of it.

-The home next to your house looks pretty well placed already, but that's only at a glance for me.

-If you can possibly do so, place a house on each lower corner around the plaza tree. This guides a path towards the plaza, and makes your new bridge placement even more useful.

These are just some ideas I can give, but I have biases about placing my homes spread out in the town, as opposed to all of them lined up in a row. I also like building works projects between them, or even having them placed around a horizontal river, and a bridge connecting between them all. What you want might be different, but I hope this helps.

I'd do a bunch between the house next to right your house all the way to the one by the waterfall in a line. The left over homes I'd do to left between to left most pond and the river by the entrance water fall (the space by Harvey's) or in a line up right your river by the coast I think

Two layout ideas:

1) spread out - just like Lanstar just said. Excellent ideas! Totally agree with the houses beneath the town tree - it guides the paths up to the tree.

2) here's another concept - 6 villagers above you I think they could fit if they were spread out wide in that whole rectangle area below the river and down to your house.

Waterfall - River
Then one space required beneath river
Cliff - one space - 3x3 house - approx. 4 spaces of paths - 3x3 house - 4 spaces - 3x3 - 1 space next to the river

Then 3 spaces full of patterns moving down
Then
Cliff - one space - 3x3 - etc etc.
3 spaces full of patterns

Then it's your house.

That's 6 villagers, then whomever is next to you is 7, then 3 more to go.

I think it would be enough space just like you said. It's worth a try!

It's a great map. There are other possibilities too.

One neat trick I like to use in my town is placing stuff as next to one another as possible as opposite to scattering it all across the map. It looks organized (in my opinion) and makes it easier to get to places. So what I'd do is place the houses near the important locations you already have there, the event plaza, Re-Tail and Town Hall. Hopefully I did help?
