EDIT: PLEASE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY, I AM NOT NEW, I KNOW HOW THE GAME WORKS AND ITS FEATURES AND I AM NOT REQUESTING TO KNOW WHAT THE BADGES ARE, I MEAN THE CATCHES BEHIND THE BADGES, SUCH AS THE EXAMPLE I POSTED. I'm sorry but I am VERY over people speaking to me in a condescending tone when I ask questions on forums. I've been here at least a couple of years now I don't need people to tell me how to press the A button :P

Are there any in depth guides/hints/tips/tricks that people know of for badges? For example I once found a user who explained their method for getting the golden badge for sending letters, and described important things like how you have to send to your own villagers and fill up at least three lines with text and that it can just M over and over because they take up the most space.

I'm looking for things like that for pretty much all the badges, such as methods for the 5000 bug and fish totals (best season, can it be island based etc,) and turnip profiting for dummies (since I want that profit badge but I've never bought or sold turnips ever, so I'm pretty clueless and don't want to be stuck doing it for years before I make the total).

Basically any badge specific tips :D

I am not going to do something if it has no apparent proof, e.g. collecting bugs on the island or a side game if there is no proof that they even count towards the total. We know the balloons in the mini games don't count towards that badge, therefore it's feasible that the island itself is discounted, but there's no proof I can find to differentiate between island and tour collecting.

What? You have to fill up 3 lines? NO WAY. No wonder I don't have my letter badge yet!

hMM are you a new player?

Im not sure what you are asking for. Like the best ways to get each badge quickly?

Heres a good guide for the game if you are a new player: http://www.thonky.com/animal-crossing-new-leaf/badges-from-phineas/

Ill give you a general idea of how I got my badges..

Fishing, catching bugs, and diving has to be all done in your town only. Things you catch in the island does not count for the badge. The balloon badge is pretty easy, theres a balloon flying everyday so you just pop it when you see it.

Turnip badge is pretty easy to get. Just buy tunrips from Joan, she will be walking around. You can use the megaphone and call her name to find her faster. Buy 180 turnips, and sell it online during the week for the highest price you can get. Usually around 500-600 bells per turnip. go here: http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?69010-Official-Turnip-Prices-Thread. Soon enough, youll get the the turnip badges!

Badges for helping you villagers--it means you do whatever favor they ask. Give them the fruit they want, give something to another villager the villager ask, find them a furniture to put in their homes, catch a bug or fish for them, etc. Usually I do 20favors per day. I have 10villlagers so I do favors for them twice a day.

Dream badges--you need a dream suite for this badge and must build it through public works project. Once its built, just visit the dream suite 500 times. It costs 500 bells each visit. Makes sure after 1 dream, you walk out of the dream suite and then go back in each time you go to see another dream address. you can ask Luna to give you a dream address for you to visit so dont worry.

Weeding badge-- Go to someones town, especially see if there are cyclers out there (those who have a second copy of the game and cycle villagers in and out to give people their dream villagers) or time travelers thats willing to time travels months ahead so that there are plenty of weeds all around their town for you to pick. Many ac communities offer Weed Day events, where they allow players to come to town to pick as many weeds as possible & work on the final weeding badge. Thats how I got mine.

Gardening badge--just go to the island and go on tours. You dont have to really play the island tour games. Just go run around and pick up as many flowers as you can, put it in the storage. Go back to your town and plant 500 flowers. then you are finished! Or the faster way is to ask people online for flowers and look for flower giveaway (theres many)!

Traveling badge-- if you go to forum home on bell tree forums, there is the acnl train station online link (http://www.belltreeforums.com/forumdisplay.php?77-The-Train-Station-(AC-NL-Online)) or any other acnl online communities (nookipedia, reddit, etc) and you can make a thread asking for people to let you visit their towns.

Hosting badge-- if you go to forum home on bell tree forums, there is the acnl train station online link (http://www.belltreeforums.com/forumdisplay.php?77-The-Train-Station-(AC-NL-Online)) or any other acnl online communities (nookipedia, reddit, etc) and you can make a thread asking for people to visit your town.

For hosting and traveling badge, it works best if you give something in return (10,000k bells, hybrids, arts, DLC items) etc.

For the KK Slider badges-- go every saturday and request to listen to a song. If you request to listen to songs 100 times, youll finish this badge. but you need club LOL for this one (publics works). Club LOL is open from 8pm! the website I listed for a acnl guide above will show you how to unlock all the public works and places on main street.

As long as you have played ACNL for 500 hours youll get all of the villager honor badges.

The last three badges are awarded if you get all the in-game fishes, bugs, and creatures in the ocean all year around (you dive for these in the ocean, must have a wet suit --go to the island and purchase 1 for 30 medals or just ask someone online to sell it to you). You can ask time traveling players to travel to the months you need for each fish bug or sea creature you havent caught. The only ones you cannot catch in another persons town is the tarantula and scorpion!

As for the letter writing badge, you can send as many letters you want per day. Villagers might get annoyed but you can do it none the less. You gotta buy letter stationary paper at the nook store. For each letter, just write 10 characters and itll count!

Hope this helped

A lot of them are pretty self-explanatory though. There isn't really any shortcuts to any of them. You just gotta do it.

For the 5000 bug one, I would just say go beetle hunting every night. You'll eventually get it. Unless island bugs don't count.

For the turnips, just buy a lot and go to the Train Station sub forum and lurk for someone to post a turnip thread at a higher price then you bought them for and go to their town and sell them. Unless it doesn't count if you sell in someone's else's town. I don't know the specifics.

yeah, I made the same mistake and sent off hundreds of empty letters XD so I need to do it all over again now
and I don't want to get tripped up on other badges in the same way, such as visiting KK on my TTing side game, if visiting KK only counts on your main?

for turnip farming, just buy a full locker of turnips on sunday.
hopefully joan will sell them under 100, the price ranges from 90-110.
after buying, you now have a week to sell!
lots of people post their prices in the offical turnip prices thread in the train station: http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?69010-Official-Turnip-Prices-Thread however, i suggest you make a reddit account (just need email) and go to the acturnips sub reddit. people will post their prices of 400-500+ (which is the easiest way to profit). people will also post their prices joan is selling turnips for on sunday (usually in the 90 range as people want to make a profit rather than lose). if you sell a full locker at 500, that's 10 million bells which is the highest badge for turnips!
i found a tumblr blog on some guides on badges and the guides are in the sidebar of the about me! i hope this helps you somewhat c:

@pearly I don't see how asking for clarification on badges insinuates that i'm "new" (I'll be honest I found your tone kinda rude, I'm not new at all)

also, it's not what you're making it out to be, for instance you claim that "just" going to the island to gather flowers solves the gardening badge, but in fact, island mini game flowers don't count towards the total, ergo, one of the things I'm trying to find out here. Many of the badges have catches like that I just want to be aware of them.

@sugarplum - I'm not asking WHAT the badges are, I'm asking for tips on them, such as the example I provided, or like I pointed out, that some flowers don't count, they have to be from seedling bags not picked from elsewhere. Therefore it's not really "self explanatory" that gardening doesn't count "all" plants planted :P and like you just said, you don't even know if the island bugs count, therefore I'm not doing it until I can find some kind of proof from someone that it does, because my calculations show even roughly it'll take nearly a month of daily bug catching to get near 5000 and I am sure as heck not doing it on the island only to find out I wasted all that time XD

I believe everyone is greatly misinterpreting what I've posted >< I suppose I'll edit it for greater clarity?

I sorta realized what you were asking for as I was typing my post but I was too lazy to change it. There are a lot of uncertainties with most of the badges, I suppose.

sorry everyone I think my post obviously wasn't worded right and most people are interpreting this as some noob asking what the badges are, I've been playing for a very long time and I don't need that, I am asking about tips and tricks to assist in the badge getting, or catches behind the badges

E.G. FLOWERS MUST BE FROM SEEDLINGS TO COUNT FOR GARDENING BADGE NOT STOLEN FROM ISLAND

this is to prevent time wasted trying to do something that doesn't count.

Do you get gold right away then? Or does Phineas give you them in order?

Do you get gold right away then? Or does Phineas give you them in order?

I don't think you get the gold badge right away? I'm not sure as I had the two previous turnip badges before so I can't answer that.
I also need to clarify that 19,600 turnips (full locker + your 16 storage space for your charachter) gives you 10 million if turnips are at 500.
A full locker only has 18,000 turnips which is at exactly 9 million.

I'm not sure if there's any in depth ones, but here's a truckload of my own advice because I'm procrastinating.

Bugs/Fish/Sea critters: If you're not so worried about turning a profit, just wander town and catch absolutely everything and when you bag fills up release them all. If you have a lot of trees, then you want summer/fall for the bugs on trees really. If you have a shed load of flowers then spring/summer and butterfly hunt (with volume up so you can hear honey bees easier.)
I'm certain the island counts towards your totals, (not sure about on the tours though.)

Collecting bugs/fish/critters: If you are willing to TT this is easy, or if you aren't, but have a 2nd town and 3DS you can visit that one while TT there. Otherwise hope to find people currently in the correct month. Some bugs (Bee, Mosquito, Scorpion and Tarantula) you need to catch in your own town in Summer though.

Balloons: Patience for all 5000! Some people leave the billions of silver slingshots where they drop so they can just grab the nearest when they see a balloon and shoot it. I always keep a slingshot in my letters, but pretty much only use it when I see slingshot with 2/3 balloons holding it up. (as each balloon counts). Having the entire town covered in flowers saves you having to collect up all the litter they make.

Island tours: Most people say Giant dragonfly tour is best to farm as it gives 20 medals. I disagree though as you have to play out the timer. I opt for tours that end when you're done ~ like hide and seek and labyrinth (I think both give 16 on hard and can be done in ~3 minutes most of the time.)

Gardener: Not 100% But I think you can just plant 100 bells at a time with the golden shovel, and let them grow a little, destroy them all and go again. Again, not 100% sure though as I got gold pretty quickly for this just in my own town planning craze.

Weeds: Hope you find a nice cycler who'll let you harvest the towns weeds every so often? If you do this on days Leif is in town he'll provide a counter so you can keep a rough track of how you're doing. I used to do this in my cycle towns with friends a lot and I never got a gold badge for it though. I don't know what they were thinking setting it to the equivalent of 2500 days of weeding when most people have beautiful ordinances to prevent weeds. S:

Bellionaire/Buyer/Stalk: Pretty much just play the stalk market repeatedly. The Stalk badge is for buying and selling, so if you spend 2 mill on turnips and sell them for 8 mill total, you'll get the 10 mill it wants for the badge. Weds/Thurs before 12pm is the most likely times for high spikes. And before a big spike you usually get something around 120-150 as the price the afternoon before, so you know to check. But really the quickest way overall is to TT, have one town on Sunday to buy, and another town with a spike, and relay back and fourth filling up your locker repeatedly.
You'll probably want to keep playing the stalk market to get the bellionaire badge aswell.

Refurbishing: Have 100 hours free? :P I always have stuff for Cyrus to recolour, and this was my first gold badge. But really just make sure he's always busy and you'll get there. Villager pings (when you aren't doing the diver trick) are also every half hour (provided they're not going to tell you you're too tired and to take a break), so this can be mixed into PWP ping hunting. It's quicker and more boring to TT half hourly, but there's no point if you've got to play to get the other gold badges anyway.

Catalogue badge: Either give up and cry or dedicate your life to the Re-tail board? :p I hope you already have a checklist to go by!

HHA: Just have complete sets in a few rooms, really easy to get.

K.K.: You can easily get this in 2-3 weeks, just keep getting K.K. to sing for the whole 4 hours he's around. Just hit 100 songs listened to.

Villager concierge: If you have 10 villagers, you'll pretty much get 1 request from each of them each day. ~ Though you need to catch them at the right times. If you're not TTing, reloading across the day will change who's outside. And sometimes you'll get an odd extra request. Otherwise TT through days. I usually ignore specific fish/bug asks, or fruit I don't have stored unless I intend on doing something that day that might net what they want.

Letters: Honestly not a clue, I haven't tried, I heard you need at least 12 characters in the letter. I have heard you can't send all 200 in 1 day and expect to be done though as that only gets you the bronze badge, and then you need to write more. Personally I'd play safe and do 1 letter to each villager a day for 20 (25 if 8 villagers) days.

Streetpass: Perseverance. Bring your 3DS everywhere and if you know you're likely to streetpass a lot check it often, and load them into the game so you can get another 20. I don't know if you have streetpass relay where you are, but that can be a god send if you have a couple places nearby. Though I've just accepted unless I move/commute to London daily with my 3DS I'll never hit 1000 SPs. Especially as it so rarely seems to get AC ones now. ~ Though maybe turning off streetpass functionality for all games other than AC will increase the odds there.

Visiting/hosting: Trade. A lot. Or find a few friends who you can jump in and out of each others towns a load with one evening.

Dreams: I've read that a single random dream entry and instant exit takes about 3 minutes, and you generally have to grind away for 25 hours if you want gold dreamer badge. Sit and watch TV as you go I guess, atleast that's 1/20th of you 500 hour badge! :P

And erm... Good luck!
I'm not joining you in this, I once wanted all gold badges, but getting halfway and having a town corrupt obliterated any motivation for doing this. I doubt I'll see another bronze streetpass badge on my own files, let alone gold!

I hope this isn't full of grammar errors because I'm going to bed without proofreading this.

EDIT: Also this clearly took me too long because there's now a ton of posts in this thread. xD

Oh I didnt mean to seem or be rude ^^;;

I did think since you are a senior member, the chances that you are new member would be low but thought that asking wouldn't hurt, just in case! Oh and for the gardening badge, oops! I just did a lot of island trips so that I could get a lot of flowers in my town for decoration but I got it confused. You are right, only seed bags count toward the badge. However, I also believe bushes and tree saplings you buy from the store, planting it, also counts toward the badge. Ive only bought 50 seed bags of regular flowers. From that day on, Ive only bought bushes or trees.

*could you also tell me what words or phrases made you think I was being rude or condescending? And then can you write it in a way where it would take out the rudeness or condescending tone? I would just like to know so that Ill avoid offending anyone else. Or does it help if I use more emoticons?

There are all sorts of guides online for everything, I personally love the ACNL guide book, it tells you which bugs/fish/sea creatures are available at which time and where during each month. I think thonky has guides for just about everything as well, it's basically an online guide but I personally like the physical book so I can mark off the items I've got in the back catalog, it's super helpful!

I'm not sure about for the other things, I've just been slowly picking away at them, I am way too lazy and I tt too much to do turnips so I am no help there, I did it once and only made like...10.000 profit because I had bought so many and they only went up a few bells a piece.

And all I know about the balloons is just to basically go back and fourth across your island at 00:04 every ten minutes a new balloon comes, and it takes I think 5 minutes to exit the other side, so you could just stand on one edge of town and it would either show at 00:04 when it blows in or at 00:09 when it's leaving, I am not an expert because I have been too lazy to do that as well.

Not sure if any ones said this cause I'm not reading all the long AF posts on here already, but all the bugs and fish you catch on the island (not on tours) will count towards your collection, the tour bugs and fish and stuff do not count, but all the ones you're capable of bringing back home do count. During the tours you can pocket the fruit on the islands they bring you to, and also the flowers and they'll still be in your pockets at the end of the tour, I am not sure if you're doing a non-bug one where you let them go if you can catch them and they'd show up, but that's why Lloid shows up with Tortimer, he has all the tools so you could use the 5 or 10 minutes to not do the tour and just steal stuff from the island. So that's cool.

Fishing: I'm just fishing to fill my bag up and then releasing them. I don't spend as much time on my game anymore but when I'm doing daily chores if I see a fish I'll catch it. Fish in the ocean, they seems to spawn better there than the river. Im catching at least 16 everyday until I get gold. I'm on silver because I used to go to the island to catch rare fish and sell them for bells, but I don't need bells anymore so I'm just trying to keep up the number of fish purely for completion now.

Bug Catching: I already have gold but I caught bees everyday. There should be 5 in your town, but it could be less depending on your number of trees and stuff like that. I also used to beetle hunt at night so that was helpful. Catch every single bug and release the cheap ones or sell them when your bag is full and repeat until your basket is filled. Thats probably the best way. Island tours do not count towards this, fishing, or diving. catching and releasing does count, you don't have to swap for it to count.

Diving: UGH, just keep at it. I aim to catch at least one scallop for Pascal a day so sometimes that takes a long time because those buggers are so fast. I usually take about an hour and do maybe about 3/4 bag full. Good thing it's only 1000 though instead of 5000 like the other two.

Encyclopedia: just keep a list of everything. Check the seasons and times. Ask people on the train station board to TT to certain times you might need or have missed.

Balloon popping: pop every balloon you see. The silver shovels will count as two pops. Just keep an eye and ear out for floating balloons.

Medalist: go on tours with friends. If not that, go on tours with people from ct. Do tuna kahuna/giant dragonfly. It's the best one in my opinion. I did the tuna tour for one whole night with a group of people and got the silver the next day after I just finished with getting the bronze two days before.

Gardening: plants lots of fruit trees. Plant bushes, trees, and flowers from bags. As long as they have been planted, can can dig them back up or destroy them etc. i got it when I officlaly started landscaping and planted my cherry orchards and Phineas popped up when i started back up after I had gotten back from school.

Weeds: ask time travelers, usually they need their towns cleaned the most. If someone has a cycle town, they might need a clean up crew.

Bellionaire: save the money from all that bug hunting. Sell stuff at retail on here and in game lol. Win giveaways. Sell turnips. Sell TBT.

Stock market: make a second character, use them to buy turnips, and sell using the character you need the badge for. This is all about profit so if you buy 1millions worth and sell 3millions worth you net profit is only 2 million.

Shopper: buy everything you like. I'm pretty sure buying from other towns count too. I brought the crown and royal crown in people's towns before since I needed it for catalog and it never appeared in my shops, next day I got the badges. This can be worked up to though especially if you are wanting to complete your catalog.

Refurbish: refurbish the cardboard box. It's cheap and refurbishing back to normal also counts as 1. I did this by set. I wanted a gold cabana set so I refurbished that and I wanted a silver modern set so I refurbished that. Anything that would look nice refurbished I would do the whole set and place it in my house. It was pretty nice looking and I got to reach a high HHA score because of that. Two birds with one stone yo lol Also it's not a full 30 minutes, I think it was around 24 minutes so yeah putting that info out there. Less time spend is better I say.

Catalog: just know that it's more than 80% to get the gold badge. I used http://animalcrossingnl.mooo.com to keep everything in check. I used http://moridb.com to make a wishlist of all the stuff I still needed and posted a thread on the retail board to get everything.

Happy Home: this one is easy. However, if you want the gold exterior stuff, don't do the themes. (My opinion obviously, I never got higher than 100k and I matched the theme and everything so idk) I just placed sets in all of my house and placed villager pictures in my rooms. The themes didn't really help me. If you find that you are using the theme challenge and your score is stuck, just don't do the theme stuff. That's basically what happened to me.

KK: just keep asking him to play songs. If you want his picture, fill your bag with things so that he can't give you a song. Keep doing that 20 times and the next day his picture will be in the mail.

Requests: just keep doing things for your villagers. This is the easiest one. Keep talking to them and they'll always have something for you to do. Plus you'll be able to check who's moving that day and build friendship c:

Letters: I wrote 10 villager letters once everyday. I mainly just put "Hi friend!" On four different lines and got the badge when I was all done. You can buy letters beforehand and calculate how many you need left. It's pretty simple.

Streetpass: good luck!... Go to best buy, Starbucks, McDonald's, Home Depot, lowes, the mall, university, everywhere. If you live in a place that has a lot of people who own a 3ds thats even better. I don't have that luxury and it took me a year to even get bronze so I'm not sure how this gold badge thing will work.

Traveler/host: sell things, do giveaways, ask for help in train station board. You can check how many people you need left for host by sitting on the tree. You can check how many people left you need to visit by asking someone to visit your Dream town and ask porter how many times you've traveled (or visited if your tree isn't big enough to sit on)

Dreamer: the fastest way. Grab however many bells you need for 500 dreams, cost is 500 bells each. Watch a movie, grab some popcorn, and just let your hands do the manual work by pressing A and pushing the circle pad left. If you want I suppose you could always visit really nice towns too to get inspiration and stuff, but if it's for the purpose of the badge purely the first way is the fastest, it's tedious though in either case.

Town rep: i heard that you can leave your game on while you are in the ocean, you'll still be counted as playing. Idk about that, but if you played as much as me, I'm pretty sure this badge will be a breeze

This blog http://acbadgehunter.tumblr.com/tagged/acnl-badges also has some tips I might have missed. They don't have every single badge listed with guides but some stuff are pretty good to know.

Wow, I had no idea there were specific rules to everything, like the letters :O Luckily when I DO sit down to write a letter I tend to fill the thing up with how much I love Flurry.
I know diving for sea creatures on the island and then bringing them back home counts toward the two diver badges (both the encyclopedia and the how many times caught) as I just got the silver for both after an island-visit :D
