[GUIDE] Guide to AVOID save data corruptions (COME AND CONTRIBUTE!)

I'm wondering why this thread was necessary... It's common sense not to turn off your console while saving (it even says "do not touch the power button" when it's saving!) and it also tells you to completely turn off your system before removing the SD card.

Most of the data corruptions that have been happening recently are completely accidental (IE accidentally turning the DS off too early, the DS dying while saving, etc). They knew the consequences but it was just an accident.

Even if you take all of these precautions, there is a very very small chance (less than 1% I believe) that it will just corrupt for no reason. Each time you save, there's always that super small chance it can corrupt even if you didn't do anything to cause it.

This guide is helpful, don't get me wrong, but it's full of things that people should have known already. There's only so many ways to corrupt saved data purposely.
It's not going to be based off of things that are common though, that's why I'm getting everyone to contribute information that others don't already know (:

And I myself, didn't know you could corrupt your data from turning off your 3ds while saving as I'm a person who would possibly do that, so this would be a precaution to everyone.~

This has a 0.1% chance of happening, just saying. You must simultaneously press down on the power button for an actual corruption to happen.

really? o: changing it, thank you for your contribution! ^.^

This thread is very helpful!
Also, never turn off the power while your town is being loaded. It can, and will corrupt you data, but only a small percent of the time.

i have accidently once tried to get into my mayor, while plot resetting so i let the spotpass settings change and i did turn the power off [2 times, i tried] but nothing had happened so i was just lucky tbh

I think there should be a notice that a full cause has not been fully determined, and that there is no 100% for sure way to prevent it. Just my two cents.

Any time there are blue dots in a circle, don't touch that power button.

True, but it says "do not turn off power" when the game is saving/loading for a reason...

This has nothing to do with Animal Crossing, but be sure to EJECT the SD card from the computer before removing it. Failing to properly eject the card before removing it from the computer may cause it to reformat, which will delete everything on the card.

added all! thank you all for contributing c:

@fireninja1, will do!

& as stated, this guide will not be officialised until next week, meaning I won't re-word everything to make this guide make more sense for everybody until this week! <3

I'm just going to copy & paste everyones contribution in, and then edit it all next week ^.^ and research more about data corruptions c:

what if you want to reset to see resetti? Then you hit the HOME button to suspend the software and THEN if you want turn it off. And if you DO accidentally hit the power button in the game, DON'T FREAK OUT. I've had to have accidentally done that 3 times or more.

This is extreme useful for me cause I have the habit NOT to eject USB or anything before remove it cause it just too nuisance~ and then I wonder why my thumbdrive always ask to reformat before use~ THANK FOR THE INFORMATION!! help me at least xD

I don't think this thread needs to be made either.
It's just common sense, I mean, don't chew on the card? Really? Why do you need to be told not to do that?

Corruptions are almost entirely the users fault and ringing Nintendo won't do anything either.
But how many of these threads are just wanting free stuff and sympathy and how many actually corrupted. Very few imo.

Either that or there's just so many 'corruptions' because there are so many people playing the game, a couple are bound to corrupt.
But there's no game that people constantly mess with either by plot resetting or the like.

Thank you.

Also even if this thread is pointless.. it means there will end up being less threads about the topic
as they will have no excuse at all

Pointless or not, this thread was made for self-awareness, and so other players that probably do not know about this could be aware. ^~^ And as I said, for now I am just copying and pasting information that people contribute, I'm going to OF COURSE edit this and take out what information is needed and what isn't. ^__^

I have nothing to contribute, but just wanted to say how helpful this is. Its so easy to get sloppy and this sort of thing is a great reminder.

I'd just like to add that "Corruptions" are not something Nintendo programmed into the game.. It's a glitch.

In general, if a game does corrupt, chances are you were doing something wrong. I've seen too many people try and switch between SD Cards to have multiple towns without buying the game again and that's just not going to work.

There are exceptions--I've had a friend who's hand slipped to the power point before (although, never during a save) and another who dropped their 3DS and it clicked off.

Personally, I never power off my 3DS anyway--can't get StreetPasses if it's turned off...

Thank you Jennifer! adding this in as a quote! c: ~

The one thing I have done is put tape over my SD card slot. The way I hold the DS puts my hand right over the slot and pushes on the cartridge. It would be nice if a retractable cover was over it.
