griefing

The worst that's happened to me was someone stole a princess chair during a catalog party I was having.

Another time, I opened my gate to let someone come over for a trade. The wrong person showed up, and just took off running. They didn't greet me or anything. Just ran. I panicked, and hit the wifi.

Thankfully I've only had positive experiences with trading so far, though in the event that I do run into some trouble does anyone know where the equivalent of the Wi-Fi switch is on a new 3ds?

I think this thread is fine, for all those wondering if it's breaking the rules. The OP isn't shaming/revealing the member. Threads like this should exist to show that there's a crappy side of trading that can happen. Plus OP did nothing wrong, they were abiding by the rules. We shouldn't shame them for the crappiness of other thieving members. Sorry that happened to you dude!

As for negative experiences. I had one where I was trading with a member here. They wanted their tbt bells before the trade (and before we visited whichever town) That should had raised a red-flag, but it didn't. So I sent them the bells and waited and finally realized after some time that they weren't online anymore.

Whatever, I just shrugged it off. I never use tbt bells anyway. Still kind of lame not to honor your agreements. Oh my god, why is tbt so slow?

I don't think my new 3ds XL has a wifi switch. That is still a silly name for it.

Yeah the 2ds and newer 3ds models don't have a wifi switch that is accessible. I guess you could power off the game, but I don't know if that would corrupt your data or mess with things.

I'm very sorry this happened to you!! Personally myself I have never encountered a trade experience like this and I hope I never do. Most of the people I've met on here are lovely, but of course there will be people like this who ruin it for others. It would be best to hold one trade at a time to ensure nothing gets stolen or ruined in your town, and read iTrader reviews! Best of luck.

I've never had a bad experience trading, but normally I only visit to adopt villagers. I very rarely trade items. And even then, it's usually with friends I have traded with before. I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's such a childish, mean behavior to come to someone's town, trash or steal and then bolt. Some people are very immature and selfish.

Yeah, my 3ds xl doesn't have one.

I just power off.

To anyone that thinks this is a blacklisting thread, the OP is asking if anyone else has had bad experiences trading with others, not just pointing out someone that stole stuff from their town. They shared their negative experience of trading with someone here as their contribution to the topic, so it doesn’t count as blacklisting.

I don’t believe I have encountered a bad trader, thankfully. Almost all of the people I have traded with here are polite and most trades go through well.

Before I trade I always save so that when they come, if they are bad, I can power off and not lose any data.:lemon:

It is a shame when something goes wrong, be it via miscommunication or whatever, and someone ends up hurt.

At least you know within yourself that you did nothing wrong, and another person got away with something they shouldn't.

You just have to be really careful.
There are some not-so-nice people out there who don't care who they hurt by their actions.

I've had many bad experiences with trading, Club Tortimer, etc... That's one of the reasons I stopped playing for so long. One of my favorite parts about ACNL is being able to meet new people and play together freely, trade items, etc. It just got worse and worse to where it wasn't fun anymore. With that said, I might have a gold ore laying around somewhere and if not you're welcome to have any that I may dig up in the future as well if you lost those 7 ores.

Power switch works! I have a 2dsxl. It auto saves before the person comes to your town, so you wouldn't be losing much.

Yes, I had someone run away with my TBT. I'm still waiting to hear back from them, they never gave me the stuff I bought

Ditto on that, I can't even remember what they were supposed to give me. It was last year. I probably could figure it out if I scrolled through my post history, but I'm too lazy for that.

I haven't with trading items no, I've traded a lot and often with people with low / no ratings and this has yet to happen though, I find most people on the forums are trustworthy. It's always possible though, which is sad. Sorry this happened to you.

I have however had an issue with not receiving paid for (RLC) art on the forums, which is different, but still disappointing, I even followed them up many times, I don't think it was malicious, but still.
