Greeting + Catchphrase Agony

Do any of you ever get frustrated trying to maintain greetings and catchphrases on your villagers?

I have a theme town where each villager has a specific greeting and catchphrase that matches the theme. The reason why I want each villager to say something different is because I'm almost finished with my town and will be releasing my dream address. My villagers have the tendency to talk to each other anytime I leave their sight. So you can imagine the internal pain I have every time a villager takes another's greeting/catchphrase. Getting them to ping me again for this is such a pain, omg. I can't wait until after the DA is released so I will be free.

Anyway, do you give your villagers specific greetings/catchphrases and if yes, what are they?

i want to have my bear cubs be pleasant and friendly to all our visitors! so when they ask me to change their catchphrase, i change it to "pal," "friend," "buddy" etc. pekoe and maple are already good to go (their default catchphrases are "bud" and "honey").

with greetings, i try to match their personalities. uchis are super casual, normals are sweet, jocks and peppies are excitable, lazies are friendly, and crankies are shy. if i had them in my town, snooties would be sophisticated and smugs would be flirty.

One of the villagers I want to leave pinged me about their catch phrase/greeting.
So I gave them the idea of saying, "Get Out."
HA.

But I really do try to think of cute ones to give them. Gave one to Fang the other day, but can't remember what he says now. I think it might have been a nickname... I love the nickname he already came with. (June Bug) thought it was cute.

I can see how having a certain theme would make it harder... Is it the town in your signature? You could always go through Pokemon phrases.

Yup! I have their catchphrase as the Pokemon they're supposed to represent and the greeting reflects a move that Pokemon can use. So yeah, managing them is a pain because then the meaning is lost if another villager uses it. =v=

Tangy copied Skye's catchphrase "airmail" and it's sooo cute for Skye, but NOT for Tangy! So yes, I feel your pain

I feel you! I gave up on having specific greetings or catchphrases for my villagers in Goblin.
Even in Ruddyoak, where I wasn't trying to theme the catchphrases, it's annoying--Tabby says "kak," like a cat getting up a hairball, but it's spreading and now even Maple says it.

It reminds me of the plague game I saw on Tumblr--change one villager's catchphrase to "cough." This represents the plague. Once every villager in your town catches the plague, you have to reset your town.

I get too attached to my villagers to try this, but it's still an interesting game for someone, maybe.

Oh god, I hate that. Moose's greeting used to be "Suspicious stuff!" and then for some reason Quillson started saying it. This made me hate Quillson 10x more. I have a hard time thinking up witty catchphrases, so when I make a good one and it changes, I get really mad.
