Incase anyone is unaware, this refers to games like TellTale's games, Erica, Detroit: Become Human, etc

Anyone else a fan of this form of storytelling? I feel like the genre needs to break through some walls and change up how important the decisions you make really are, but I do think the genre has a ton of potential.

My favorites are Life is Strange (in spite of its writing and plot holes) and The Wolf Among Us (R.I.P 😭)

Life is Strange will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I am so glad to have had played such an amazing series thus far! Choice games are my all time favorite!

It brings the sense of realism or imagination of choice as to what you would do and how one thinks, making every option interesting. I love watching playthroughs just to see what others would pick. I was always a fan of choice and the free will of picking what I, as the main character, could do. Pre-destined storytelling in games is fun and fine as well, but there is something more special with games that allow you to choose your fate that make it that much more meaningful imo.

You truly end up finding a lot about yourself (and others!) just based on choices alone and how they harbor much more deep routed psychological effects upon decisions made.

I'm very sentimental about LiS, my new roommate played through it on my PS4 recently and it still gets me totally invested even though I already know everything.

Same! I could reply the whole series over and over again and not get tired because of the complexity involving choice that leads you to something new each time! Plus, the story is great as well imo! The amount of emotions involved with this game has had me experience situations that I otherwise never would have thought of or considered and could easily put myself in the position of either the main character or the many other characters as well, seeing both sides to a situation. Many a tear was shed with this series and all the while, it still has me in awe every time ♥

@Cosmic_Crossfade I've yet to play the second game and tbh it not being about Max and Chloe causes me to not care as much lol

I totally get you! I love Max and Chloe as well! The original cast will always be amazing and unforgettable however, LiS2 very much was a masterpiece in it's own right if I dare shall say! I, at first, was very hesitant on a second game not involving our traditional cast but after playing it, I feel I can personally say from my experience that I was glad to be apart of the ride until the very end! It was well worth it I think 😊 The story of familial bonds, let alone that of two siblings, was something I suppose I took more personal to heart, being an older sibling myself haha Nonetheless, I feel this game hit home as many a serious topic has come up that I feel most game producers would not dare touch and for that, give DontNod credit as they did handle them very well and realistically for the most part imo. Touchy subjects are treading deep waters for a lot but I feel they nailed it pretty well.

Plus, I can say that there is a surprise cameo involving a certain character reappearence from LiS that we do get to see and we also get some news about other LiS characters as well depending on your choices you made from LiS!

It may not be perfect of course, as there are some plot holes and inconsistencies that may make you go "Wait, but why did this happen?" or "I wish they explained this a little better" but overall, I was able to look past it for the most part and enjoy the game for what it was haha I enjoyed having 4 different possible endings depending on your choices you made which made me want to replay the it over and over again just to see what happens 😆

I think it was well worth the $40 in the end. I was pretty happy with the result! Can't speak for everyone but I found it very entertaining, fun, emotional and it kept me on the edge of my seat.

@Cosmic_Crossfade you got me interested honestly, especially with the save file carryover and the endings. The first Life is Steange's endings both were...not great

I feel you! The endings to LiS were very much...all or nothing? For lack of a better description aha I felt that it definitely put the player between a rock and a hard place. To be honest, it made me question my morals at that point 😂 To Bay or not to Bae, that was the question lol

If say, you are curious about the game but really don't know if you want to buy it or not, what I usually tend to do is watch a bit of a playthrough from someone on YouTube just to get a feeling for it to see how it is and if I like it, I then stop watching it and buy it 😆 I personally need to get a feel for it visually as it helps me truly see what it is I am dealing with. I usually don't go by reviews anymore for the most part because I know they can come from very biased or upset people in most cases haha I say start with episode 1 then see what you think if you wish to do that method 😊

It's my opinion that you should never base a purchase on a review. I feel reviews are intended to share your personal experience and opinions on media, and compare and contrast your experience with others, not to sell said media. Obviously the current gaming review landscape seems to disagree with that philosophy.

I agree watching let's plays/gameplay is a good way to gauge your interest, but with these sorts of games I feel like any and all spoilers defeat the purpose almost.

I agree fully with your opinion on reviews! Also, I agree with your logic on the playthroughs as well as it's true that spoilers shall be spoiled if done so haha I guess if it's for people that are very practical with where their money goes, most may take the risk of a spoiler here or there. Though, for me, with games like LiS, they are usually instabuys for me for the most part at this point 😂 The only time I watched a playthrough of LiS was of episode 1 after when I first came across LiS in a copy of GameInformer and I felt that game was going to be good, but I had to see for myself since funds were very much low at the time despite how cheap the game was. It in the end, had me captivated and I was like "Ok, sold!" lol

Oddly enough, even though I saw some spoilers that may have been deal breakers for others, witnessing it in the real time for me personally by playing through it felt like a totally different experience. It was as if, even though I knew what was going to happen, just seeing it and hearing it while overall immersing myself in the game through my eyes by playing it made it feel like a whole different story. I know that sounds weird aha It's hard to describe without it sounding odd 😆

I usually just tend to "feel it out" during a trailer and can usually pinpoint if I will enjoy it or not ☺ If I get goosebumps, then that's usually a good sign lol Sometimes, you never really know if you will truly enjoy something until you try it. For others? They simply know if they like it or not from the get go haha!

In the end, you will know what's right for you 😊 Maybe one day you will try it! Or not! Either way, the magic that is LiS is something that anybody can talk about no matter what game they have played of the series that's for sure! ♥

It really just comes down to when it goes on sale and rather I'm still this poor when it does.

On another topic, has anyone played Erica yet? It's free on PSplus this month and it's live action. I haven't played it to completion (it's 2 hours and has to be done in one setting like a movie, I just haven't had the attention span recently). There's an app you can download on your phone to use as a controller and I really recommend it because using the touch pad on the PS4 controller yields less than desirable results.

I saw Erica on the PSPlus store. Though the realistic people they used on the gane kind of turned me away but I am nonetheless intruiged by it and shall download it! Do you like it?

I like the concept of it, but devs need to fully commit instead of seeing the genre as easy shovelware (may Telltale rot for how they handled everything besides TWAU and TWD season one). When you can make a choice, watch a scene after you made your choice, and immediately know exactly how the other choice would have played out to make sure you were on the same linear path, that's bad writing and execution. Just scrap the choices and make it a walking sim at that point.

Yes I loved The Walking Dead series but I think other Telltale games haven't been nearly as good as that (S1 and S2).
