Ok, so I found out recently that in Japan the pair are male, and female in North American. Before that, I used to think that Gracie was always meant to be female, and Saharah male.

I?m curious what others think, or thought. Am I the only one?

Oh yeah, it's pretty interesting. Before I learned about them both being dudes in Japan, I didn't really think much about Saharah, though I got a feeling from Gracie that she was meant to be a dude at some point of time.

I've always seen both of them as female, but now knowing that Gracie is male in Japan... it really feels more correct for me to call her a him nowadays.

i thought gracie was female and saharah was male before. i knew a while back that they are male in japan. i'm assuming they changed them to avoid sexism or something?

Yes, I knew about it. They also changed Blanca, she was male in the original.
I'm surprised they didn't change Pav? to female as well at this point. >v<
I'd prefer them to be kept male. But looking at the other side, the lack of balance with event NPCs would bother me though, they're all male except Katie! So at least it's balanced now, I guess?

The old Birdo topic strikes again! Wait, wrong game. I actually think Gracie works better as a female in the other versions. She has that diva/drama queen personality.

Gracie was intended to be a drag queen ;)

Maybe it's because I watched a lot of ANTM as a kid, but I always assumed Gracie was a male. The deep voice never gave me any reason to think otherwise. Also, I specifically remember one interaction where Gracie tells a female character that she is really pulling off the feminine look and to keep doing her thing... only to realize the character is female and causes Gracie to act a bit awkward. Kinda implies Gracie has a soft spot for males experimenting with feminine clothing, no?

I assumed Saharah was female because I saw her as the female counterpart to Wendell - who was obviously male.

Took me a year or two to realise Saharah was female in the western versions but I did have a feeling Gracie was originally a male.

And I thought Blanca was male until like... the amiibo update and noticed the description in her RV 8'D

I actually really love the idea of Gracie being male...I think it makes the character more interesting.

I knew about it too, and it's completely silly. Apparently we can't handle boy animals having eyelashes over here. The horror, the unconventionality!

I don't know, I feel like it gives variety to a game that is heavily filled with too many male npcs. If you're going by the Japanese version, that is.

What I find really funny is that they changed Gracie and Saharah's gender, but Pav? remains a male. I don't mean to say that he should've been changed, but if us westerners can handle Pav? and his flamboyant personality without a gender change, I think we can handle a couple eyelashes.

I knew about those genders but pave is a boy?? I guess his peppy voice threw me off..
