good maps vs bad maps?

i restarted my town and now i'm trying to find a map to my liking!

does anyone have any tips for what a "good" map is? :0

I like maps that have the retail at the top of the town close to the station. That's really my biggest thing really. The rest is just a matter of how you prefer the town to be divided river wise.

I think people like the waterfall to end on the south, because then you can see the waterfall front on, and not from the side.

I'm really picky, and before I used to care way too much about other people opinions! Your perfect map is your perfect map! I like the waterfall to end south, and also I like my west beach, not south, I want my tree by the beach, because it feels like you get fresh air, lots of space, I like the cramped little narrow space (space for secret orchard!) and I love the ramps that go south, it's easier to get down that way. And small details like blue/green trainstation (not important though) and town fruit (REALLY important, I hate pears!) and then even smaller details for some like grass (although I don't bother) and what not

Like some others have said, the best map is what you make of it. Maybe think about the following criteria? (my criteria are in parenthesis)

- What do you want your house or other characters' houses to be surrounded by?
(my house to be secluded in the center of town and surrounded by water, second house on top of a "hill" next to the cliff)
- Look at the PWPs and have an idea of what areas/attractions you want to develop.
(playground and chill-out area next to town tree, windmill next to Re-Tail and the Roost on "main street")
- What's the feel you're going for?
(rural, quiet, goes in a circle, watery?)
- Convenience of routes between Re-Tail, dock, train station, etc.
- Preference of river shape (related to other criteria), location of slopes leading to the beach, etc.
- Town fruit, grass shape, starting villagers, etc.

I personally like maps where there aren't too many ponds. I wasn't too picky in the beginning and now, I feel like with 4 ponds, my town is really crowded and it's hard to put down PWP's.

I also like Retails up towards the top of the town, personally, as well as Town hall. Basically a map where there's a lot of empty space so I can plan to do whatever I want.
