Golden Roses breeding...?

So I hit the 5-star rating on my island a little while ago. Very next day, a golden rose and a Jacob’s Ladder spawned on my island. Awesome, I start breeding black roses together and, over time, I got two new golden roses for a total of three. Except, since then... I’ve had none. I’m still at a 5-star rating since Jacob’s Ladders are still spawning no problem but, no matter how often I water the 20-or-so black roses I have arranged in a checkered pattern, I don’t get any new gold roses. Is that normal? Am I doing something wrong?

It's probably just that it's a rare enough spawn that rng is messing with you. Like, unless you somehow forgot to use a gold watering can (which i highly doubt), it's probably just bad luck

*note: i haven't gotten to five stars yet so this is speculation on my end, just fyi

I'll add to this that you don't actually need to cross breed black roses to get a gold. If you water a single black rose with the golden can it can produce a gold rose.

Also you don't need a 5-star rating to get gold roses. Just have to water them with a golden can.

I've had several gold roses spawn naturally from getting rained in my town. Had like 5 gold roses sprout because it rained for a week straight

The gold watering can I had did explode, as golden tools unfortunately, do, but I’m pretty sure I’ve been using a replacement gold watering can still...

I have heard that once a black rose is watered with a golden can it is "marked" until it produces a gold rose and can just be watered with a regular watering can between being "marked" and producing a gold. I haven't tested this or looked for more info on it but corlee1289's comment about getting golds after rain seems to possibly lend that idea some validity.

Gold roses are super rng based. You need to keep at it, cause they don't spawn very easily. I had a pretty big field of black roses to get the gold ones I wanted. It'll take time but you'll get them eventually

Gold Roses have a 50% spawn chance, but only one can spawn a day. Once watered with a golden watering can (note only the flower directly in front of the can gets the gold genes), it will stay flagged to produce a gold rose until it finally does.
