Golden Axe

Hi, so I've looked online and can't figure it out. I really, really need a golden axe, but I didn't know I had to buy 50 saplings from the garden store until recently. It it possible to get the golden axe from Leif if you have a T.I.Y and the garden store isn't a free-standing shop anymore?

Also, I'm pretty sure I've bought 50 saplings by now, so I'm thinking maybe I've screwed myself over on this one and missed my chance to get it? Thanks for your help!

You should still be able to get it! When you buy your 50th sapling he will give it to you right after you buy it.

You didn't miss your chance, you probably just haven't reached 50 saplings yet after all.

Once you buy 50 he'll tell you that you get some special reward with your purchase which is the golden axe.

I believe that they do count towards your total overall, but I'm not 100% certain. And it's just tree saplings that count, not bushes sadly.
