Gold Axe doesn't make special tree stumps?

I assumed it would make a special tree stump every time like the silver axe does? I also thought I read that it cut down trees in one strike (but that might have been in the Prima Guide). I went to work on my grove (I want to make all of the stumps in one section) and I got three normal stumps after three whacks of the axe.

It won't make them every time, but it's much more common than the other axes.

I've been waiting and waiting to finally get the gold axe to make all of my stumps. I guess it is back to island hopping again.

Normal axe makes special stumps sometimes, maybe 1 out of 6 trees.
Silver axes always make special stumps, 6 out of 6 trees will have a pattern.
Golden axes sometimes makes stumps like the normal axe,must never breaks. Maybe 2-3 trees will have a pattern out of 6.

I've been waiting and waiting to finally get the gold axe to make all of my stumps. I guess it is back to island hopping again.

Just days before I got the golden axe, the silver one had popped up again after me waiting for it forever, so I bought 200 medals worth of them. I also learned before that that your first 2 chops you can do with regular/gold axe and last chop with silver and you will still get a pattern. So once you get the silver axe buy as many as you can and use that trick to prolong their life.

Wish I did this before I ended up chopping down all of the trees I had in my town (more like a jungle). Ah well, at least I've got a few spares which is all I really need for any future chopping.
