I think somehow I just talked an animal into staying when I wanted him to leave. -_- I play three characters in my town so I can get lots of rooms to decorate. April 1st I got pictures of everyone in town but the newest guy who was still unpacking boxes. April 2nd one of the villagers told Mayor Mew he was moving, and she told him "Goodbye", no problem. He just told my character Syden he was going to leave, so I picked the "Ok, goodbye" or whatever option, and then the villager said "Wait, did you smile a bit? I'm just going to have to stay then!" No no no! You're supposed to leave now! I have your picture, now GTFO so maybe I can get Filbert to move in!

Is he really going to stick around now, or will he still be packing boxes tomorrow like he'd planned?

they're going to end up staying but if you haven't saved yet, there's an easy trick where if you reset the game and have them ping you again, they'll definitely move out when you tell them to.

Once they say that, they'll stick around until they ping you again. It's not always a guarantee that they'll leave when you make the "Goodbye" response. You'll just have to wait a bit longer, sorry

OR, if you're okay with TTing, TT two days ahead and two days back. There's always a guarantee someone will be thinking about moving then. If it's someone you want to keep then respond as you would if it was someone you liked and try again.

like with Fuschia in my other town, she clearly wanted to move the second time she asked me she stayed, the final time i TTed and she moved. I started my game up again and Isabelle said she was moving i thought "she wanted to move, Isabelle."

You don't necessarily need the villager to tell you that they are leaving, they only do this to let you know and to give you the option to either say goodbye or make them stay.

Sometimes they will change their minds about leaving and announce that they will stay for a little longer. If this happens again, exit the game without saving. This will undo their change of mind c:
