Giving up on getting a villager?

I'd debated for a while on who my 10th cat villager should be, and even made two polls on here and you guys helped me narrow it down to Tom. However, it's been over 2 weeks now and NOBODY has him. Nobody. I checked countless cycle threads, I check the villager trades on here and on tumblr several times a day...I'm starting to think he is some kind of myth or something, haha. But still, I'm getting ready to give up. He's the last villager I need and I can't make any progress on my town until he's been plot reset into his spot. I'm getting really upset, frankly. I'm considering giving up and just taking any cat at all that I don't have because it seems like I'll just never get him.


Have any of you ever given up on getting a villager?

I wouldn't care so much if it wasn't stopping me from really working on my landscaping, but I'm getting frustrated because it's like I'm at a stand-still. He's the only villager I need x-x


Kabuki creeps me out though He wouldn't look good in my town either. But that's another problem, I have pretty much all the really nice looking cats, so most of the ones left that I don't have won't look good in my town.

Idk. I wouldn't give up. I never gave up on Broccolo, and I did eventually get him. Someone will get Tom in their cycle town, probably. You just have to be patient or settle for a different villager. That's up to you.

Don't give up! I've been looking for Rodeo for over a year (admittedly I'm not really scouring the forums) and am still looking. I'm a lot more relaxed about it as I don't have a strict plan for my main town. But I'm sure Tom will turn up eventually! It'll be really rewarding when he does, I'm sure.

Why don't you put a fountain/other similar sized pwp where you want to put Tom's house? Then it can be a placeholder as no-one else can move onto that spot. Then you can start developing your town while you wait for him to turn up.

Well, I already have my other 9 set and I don't plan to move any of them out. Tom will be my 10th, and I set up pwps all over town to make resetting for him easier when I finally get him, which is what's stopping me from working on my town more. I know plot resetting is optional, but I already plot reset the other 9 so letting him move in anywhere would drive me nuts. ;~;

So basically, until he's moved in, I can't remove any of the pwps I built to plot reset for him easily. I didn't expect it to take so long to find him. I've never had this much trouble finding a villager. Not even Antonio, and he's more "obscure" than Tom is (in a way). I'm not sure what to do. Maybe campsite reset and see if I can get him that way? But even still, that takes so long too. I'm so conflicted.

Can you work on some parts of your landscaping without him? Like gathering up bush starts? I think campsite resetting sounds like the only option you've got right now, and I'd give it a go before giving up on him completely! I find tedious things like that (ugh the pwp trick) are made better when you're doing other things and the game is just there in the background. Who are you planning on moving in if you can't get Tom? Do you like them as much?

I actually got a PM from the lovely Crash a little bit after I made this thread and she's getting Tom for me! I'm so happy ;~; and it's great timing since tomorrow is Sunday so there is plenty of time to plot reset.

If I couldn't get Tom I was considering Kiki, even though I have several of her personality in town already.

I'm put off buying anything where there's so much dialogue, especially the wrapping paper. Kicks also. Leif is really cute and active for a sloth! I doubt he's ever going to sell me any hybrid bags though.

Ugh, the wrapping paper is the WORST. I bought someone the princess set as a surprise and there were so many pieces, and thinking of how long it would take to buy all the wrapping paper I was like "...nah." It kind of ruined the surprise but she was still happy anyway.

My current situation is that I'm trying to get Lobo back into my town. He moved out after I stopped playing for about 6 months. Now, I have to cycle out 16 villagers (I'm only at 2) and make a town on my second town, keep resetting until I get Lobo in that town. It may seem easier for me but it'll definitely be a while until I get him back. I say, don't give up on finding him. I'm sure it will be worth the wait once he plots down in your happy little town. ( :

Awh I feel bad now! I had Tom a few weeks ago and ended up voiding him. I really hope you find him! I feel like in general tier 1 & 2 villagers are easier to find because they're so popular and everyone wants to sell them. But lower tiers seem more rare because most people assume no one wants them and they just end up getting voided. :c It took me forever to find my dreamie tier 4 villager!

Filbert and Bunnie, who were my old dreamies. I stopped searching for them because I don't even like lazy and peppy personality types and I've seen better lazy and peppy villagers that won't even cause me too much bells.
