Gifting Wall furniture makes Villager Unoriginal (Original Villager Defined)

I know that a lot of people have been gifting their villagers iron wall lamps to get the most friendship points when giving photos but villagers have a max furniture storage of 32 that includes the furniture that is displayed in their house. So after a while you'll start seeing items on surfaces and any wall hanging items disappear. You can try to fix it by gifting the original furniture back but it's a process.

This is terrible if you are selling or giving away a dreamie to someone after getting the villager's photo because now if the person gifts their dreamie furniture, it might mess up their original house.
See this thread on how to keep your villagers original while getting their photos.

Original Villager Definition: The villager must not be gifted any tools, umbrellas, clothing, bugs, fish, sea creatures, furniture, wallpaper, flooring, or rugs of any kind either by the player or another villager (via delivery requests). For a villager to be 100% original, they must be gifted only fruit or seashells because the villagers will never store these items.

Random move in villagers are not gurantee to be 100% original if the player has been trading online. You can clear your move in void by doing the method in this thread and let the next four villagers move in via time travel or not trade or play with any other players online or locally for your next four move outs and let the plot be sold.

You can or not believe me at your own risk but you can see some account of furniture disappearing in this thread:

See this furniture replacement guide: Furniture Replacement and Room Markers
And if you can't find the section I'm talking about, it's this

Yeah, I had this happen to me. I got Julian and one of my friends wanted him, so I speed up the friendship process with iron wall lamps. I didn't realize that his starry garlands were disappearing until it was almost his time to go. Now I just do wrapped fruit.

Does the 32 item inventory limit include clothes or is it only furniture items?

how about sharks? ya know that ones that are too big that they won't even display lol. is it included in that 32 limit?
What about wreaths? I used to do this with the crest doorplate.

Yes and yes. If it can be placed in a house normally it's considered to be furniture. The only exception is clothes. Fruits and shells don't count as either so they won't hold on to it.

This is certainly good information.

Anyway, I don't give anything to any of my villagers. (That's why I don't have any of their framed photos up until today.)

Thankfully I have only ever gifted fruit and some clothing items. Only furniture to villagers with the basic houses. This is great info to know for future trades, though!

Updated main post with clarity on what counts as an original villager and what they can and cannot be gifted with

You cannot get the photos by gifting fruits anymore. So, for people like me who likes to collect photos and have them adopted them afterwards, our villagers will always be unoriginal.

No! You can build up the friendship with fruit! Once you build up the friendship, you can do the “full pockets“ trick or if you haven’t been spamming them with wall furniture, a few won’t hurt. And there are other ways listed at the link above.

Also, you won’t only remove hanging items, but it removes tabletop items, too. They are easy to regift if you give the *exact* item and color, which I failed to do and screwed up Audie’s house.
