So I got Sprinkle as my designated peppy move in, and I adore her. But her starter peppy home is very meh, so I have been gifting her lots of lovely furniture. She refuses to display any of it, is this normal? Will she be living in this beige empty room forever?

i’d recommend having somebody hold her for you until you can get her back, because if she moves back in she’ll have her pretty interior and not the starter one!

I second the recommendation to move her out, but if you're curious, here's a complicated guide on replacing villager furniture.
Essentially, you might be giving her furniture that she can't display, like certain large items (most notably large stereos) or things like rugs, or you might be giving her seasonal stuff, or maybe you gave her small items that are placed on surfaces, and she's just rotating through her regular items and her new ones, among other reasons.

I have a question about this- I have Flora as one of my starting villagers, and I also feel like I'm missing out on her cool house. @EtchaSketch suggested that OP should have Sprinkle move out then move back in, but my question is- will she remember the player? Or will Flora introduce herself to me again and have no memory of me?
As far as I am aware they would be a new villager and have no memory of you, but apart from nicknames and catchphrases being gone the rest should be pretty much the same because it is the same script

actually if you have someone you’re friends with hold her for you on their island and then give her back, she’ll still remember you! i had a villager move to a friend’s island and when i visited, they still remembered me!

So far I’ve been careful with gifting furniture, because I want to figure out how it works first. I did gift Katt a guitar (1x1) and drum set (2x1), which she’s both displayed ever since.
On a side note, I’m always surprised people dislike the starter peppy house—I think it’s so cute, and has a very cohesive design. Personally, I think it might be one of the nicer rooms in the game.

You can totally get them to change up their starter houses. I have gotten Marina to replace almost all of her furniture with customized wooden furniture that I have given her. It looks so cute now since it is all pink and white.

I tried to give Mac all different sizes of furniture for his starter house and now it looks even more like a hot mess.
I had someone hold my Nan and I've never felt better about her house. Maybe consider having some hold Sprinkles, just like others have suggested.

I actually really like the peppy house design as well! and I'm super thankful for that because I've grown very fond of Pompom. I don't like my uchi/jock houses but I'm not attached to those villagers so I'm fine with them leaving. the other 2 have already left as well.

I also have Sprinkle as a starter, and since I don't TT and would rather not go through the effort just to have her original house, I've looked to the replacement guide to see if I could just replace all her wooden-block furniture with at least pastel variants/shell furniture (or the ice furniture come winter, provided I keep her for that long). I had gifted her a shell speaker in pearl, only to discover she displays both that and her wooden-block stereo and - worse - according to the guide, you can't replace the wooden-block stereo. So even if I were to class her house up the best way I could do, that stereo would still be there in all its colorless glory.
It's the one starter house situation I'm frustrated with - Clay fits his lazy starter house, Billy's starter house is actually better than his original house and Ursala's is easy to make look good with a few ironwood additions and natural garden table/chair. And Marina's not permanent so I don't care about hers

If I gift Lionel a black bathrobe (the one he originally has hanging over his whirlpool) will he put it back on the wall and replace the jockey uniform I gave him?? Or will he wear outdoors?? I may try it. 
I've given him other clothes that he wears, but he won't replace that ugly uniform on the wall. If he keeps the jockey uniform on the wall and wears the bathrobe, I'll kick him straight off my island.

Villagers can store up to 32 pieces of clothing. If you want him to replace it fast, mail him 5 pieces of whatever it is you want on the wall instead.
