Getting Rid of Items?

I've finally decided to demolish my original town. I'll miss it, but it had to be done. I'm planning to search for a nicer layout and put down Manhattanesque paths, public works projects, etc. Basically, a new start. :33
However, I have a ton of items that I want to keep, and I'd like to drop them off somewhere. When I mean a ton, I mean a ton. Getting rid of most of them would be the best choice of action, which I'm okay with. I really want to do this, but I'm not sure what to dispose of, which caused the whole too-many-things problem in the first place. So, could you guys give me an general checklist of what I should sell and what I should keep?

Well, I'd say keep all unorderables, and sell all orderables, but seeing as you're starting fresh even the orderables would be nice to keep since you won't have them in your catalogue :/ I'd say just try to find someone who has the space to hold some of your items for you, and just be stern with yourself and decide that there are things you NEED to sell.

Keep anything that is unorderable, DLC, and region specific as well as orderable items that are a bit harder to come by. (Things like the tea tansu, which I hear is hard to come by.)

Well... FWIW, there's a TON of non-orderables in New Leaf. Even if you keep only those, you WILL have overflowing closets (depending on how many you've collected).

There's a lot of non-orderables, and you can check at the catalog machine to be sure if something is or not. But here's some things that are non-orderable.

- most of the holiday and event related items
- Nintendo items
- Gracie items
- Saharah wallpapers/floors
- some of the DLC (7/11 set, afternoon tea set, turkey, pumpkin pie, and shaved-ice lamp are some of the non-orderable DLCs)
