Getting rid of fake art

How can we get rid of fake art?
Nook's won't take them... Is the only solution having a garbage can? Does that work?

A garbage can-type item will work.

Some people do like collecting fake art, so you might be able to trade/give it to someone else. Lots of people like the haunted fakes and fake statues in particular.
