In three weeks time, my friends and I are going to an amusement park. They are huge roller coaster fanatics, and they are going to drag me onto gigantic rides. Except, I'm very afraid of roller coasters. I hate the drop feeling, and I get so anxious and scared when I get off. I tell myself that it's just a ride and nothing will happen, but it doesn't help.

How do I get rid of the fear of riding a roller coaster in three weeks?

you dont have to force yourself to ride one if you're not up to it, your friend should understand. there are plenty of other things to do. but start off with small roller coasters, and gradually move onto bigger rides

Just run away.... Sorry I can't help I have a phobia for roller coaster and just seeing one make me feel like vomiting right affront
And lastime I got into one... They took me to the hospital because of me so dizzy and vomiting a bit of blood ....... Sorry if this scare you

I was scared of coaster three years ago. I wouldn't dare to go in any attraction. But I just tried one of them, and had several panic attacks and cried very hard after the ride (I was 19 so I did get a lot of stares, but **** people). Then I went again, and now I quite like them. I also dare to go in more water slides :D

I mean you can't really get over it if it's the feeling in your stomach you don't like but yeah you don't have to go on anything if you don't want to. If they're good friends they'll understand.

but start off with small roller coasters, and gradually move onto bigger rides

Honestly if you're going that route I'd start off with the medium-sized ones, gets it over with way quicker

I have been an extreme roller coaster fan since I was little. There's never been a coaster I've never ridden. I don't know if I'd be much of a help, but I say go for it! You might like it.

hmmm

so youve ridden them, but you feel awful and anxious when you do? some brains just arent equipped for "Excitement" rides and instead the rides just become Anxiety Inducing Hellscapes in their brain. its okay to be the kind of person who doesnt enjoy that kind of entertainment! theres plenty more things to do at amusement parks than rollercoasters, and you can watch your friends ride it/accompany them on the line there to still hang out with them, and they can mix some non-scary rides in the schedule. your friends need to realize they gotta be equipped to compromise for their friends sometimes.

I think the best way to conquer your fear is to just go on a roller coaster or two.

I'd say you have two options here:

1) Don't force yourself to do something you don't want to do. If you don't want to go on the rides you don't have to. And you don't have to let your friends drag you on the rides.

2) Start off with smaller/medium sized rides. Maybe something that doesn't look as scary to you. Something that seems like it could be fun even.

I personally don't go on roller coasters. I'm terrified of Heights and falling off and my fear of falling has been increased recently because of an accident I had.
So it's really up to you and what you'd prefer to do.
Do you really want to get over your fear or would you prefer just not going no the rides?

If you're not up for it don't ride it, but if you try it ya may end up liking it.

Roller coasters are fun dude

I just went to Universal Studios in Florida a few weeks ago and went on my first coasters, a bunch of intense motion simulators, and more. I had never been on a roller coaster before. I find that I push myself outside of my comfort zone a lot when it comes to me wanting to make sure my girlfriend is happy and not looking like a wimp in front of her family. ;)

I had an amazing time. I'll probably still get anxious every time I go on one, but now I know that I can stand the drops and whatnot.

The point of a roller coaster is to get your adrenaline going. So it's natural to be afraid. Just get on the damn roller coaster and change your mind when you're already locked in. That way you can be afraid all you want and you still have to ride the roller coaster.

Don't force yourself to get on if it makes you that anxious. If they were your friends they'd understand

I'm pretty scared of huge rollercoasters too and I've only ridden in one big before, but I don't think I'd ever get on another one. There are other things to do at an amusement park to have fun. I managed to only go on the little kiddie rides and some medium ones and I still had a lot of fun. The lines were much shorter too so there was more to go on instead of waiting an hour for the big ones

Just relax and be comfortable

I tried a roller coaster once and I hated it, but I think I'll try one and once I get locked in if I don't like it well... good luck future me.

i love and hate roller coasters at the same time. i love how thrilling it is but i hate the feeling i have in my stomach when riding one. anyway, you dont have to go ride one. just tell your friends and insist your not going with them and maybe they'll understand. unfortunately, i dont think there's a way to overcome the fear of roller. coasters

I've been on MANY big roller coasters and hated every single one so I guess it's not always an acquired taste, try maybe one or two and if your uncomfortable just stop don't force yourself to do anything.

I mean are you scared of them because you're scared something will go wrong (when you tell yourself nothing will happen bc it's just a ride) or mainly because of the drops and stuff? If you're scared of the drops I don't think it'll ever get better for you because it's kind of a mental state. People ride it for the drops & loops/whatever so if you hate it, just don't ride it. Your friends are *******s for dragging you on them!

I am okay with roller coasters for the first 2 rides or something, even though I'm always hesitant at first (it takes me a while to muster up the courage so we usually end up riding the roller coasters last lol). I even like the drops, but then I can't stomach it after the first few because I get motion sickness and it'll just ruin the entire day for me. Whatever you choose, hope you have fun either way!

When I was a young kid we used to get season passes to Six Flags like every summer, and none of the other kids, or our babysitter wanted to ride roller coasters, I always really wanted to ride them but I was still terrified. So I road the little roller coaster that only had small drops and turns, and then I would ride the hammer ride that puts you upside down, and I would be the only kid going on these rides so I'd be on with strangers and I'd be grabbing stranger's arms and stuff. XD But I did it as my training regimen to get me ready for when I was tall enough to ride the big guys. I really enjoy roller coasters now, I love the feelings they give me, and I love the opportunity to scream out all of my anxieties since I can't really do that anywhere else.

The last time I went to Six Flags and rode Medusa my friend asked me if I was really that scared because I screamed SO LOUD and I was like, "Oh no, I love roller coasters, I just also really love screaming." So I mean, if you WANT to get over your fear start smaller, on ones that aren't as high of drops and stuff and work your way up like I did. If you just plain don't like roller coasters just tell them you don't want to go on them and wait for them to finish on the rides, there's no shame in that. Some people just don't like the feeling.

Every year I get six flags season passes were yet to redeem this year and I always go on the titan which is the tallest coaster in Texas, That being said I also caused self paranoia by going on "that" side of YouTube those details will be left unsaid but it never stopped me from enjoying the rides if I have any advice its go for it!
