Its been a while since Ive been on this board or played new leaf but im back (for now lol) My question is how can I make sure (if possible) that I dont lose any of the villagers in my town?

I dont know when was the last time i played (only the month: july 2014) Is there a log in the 3ds where i can check the last time i played? I kind of want to start the game in late summer/early fall since I got most of the stuff from spring and summer. But agaion I dont want to lose too many villagers. Any ideas?

The only way to make sure is to TT back to the date you last played and slowly TT to todays date to make sure they dont move. You can check the last time you played in the activity log on the home menu (little icon with green graph bars). :)

Can you do an estimate of the date in the month of July of 2014?

I mentioned, in another thread, that it's good to write down a town's date for when you will take a break.

You can go back and use that date. No loss of villagers.

What I recently did was take an 18-day break between my three towns. But I also did this on a date (August 13) in which a villager pinged for a move and I had turned each one down. (Telling him/her to stay.) That way, I was able to return on August 31 (real time) with no loss of villagers. But, the humans' hairstyles were messed up. (Each one went to Shampoodle.)

You may be better off going back to July 1, 2014. Then do some day-to-day time-traveling sessions until you make sure that a villager pings to let a human know he/she intends to move. Turn that villager down (telling him/her to stay in town). Then you can end the game and start with a date that you are wanting (whether it is real time or not). That should keep villagers intact.

Good luck!

I accidentally started up the game before checking the activity log so now it says my last day played was today :P

What would happen if I re set the in game clock to a date before the last time i played?

I now recall that even though I stopped playing in july last year in game I was probably in April or may.

If i remeber correctly time traveling any amount of days backwards just counts as 1 day?

Did you lose any villagers?

More to the point: Do you notice having lost any villagers? (After all, it's been over a year!)

I'm checking to see that you're okay with this.

well i didint start the game, i went to the title screen but on my activity log it shows just as played today.

Edit: from what I see most of my villager homes seem to be in the same spots (ive been looking at the title screen still) and now new villagers. It also appears to be summer since i see/hear cicadas

TT back to july of last month (no matter how far you travel it wil only count as one day)
the next time someone asks to leave stop them and on that same day TT to today's date. no one will have moved.

to be safe you should travel to the first of july

okay so actually i remembered i could start a new player and then reset the game (and i did) and i looked around no one has moved. Also in game im actually just 1 month behind (which im okay with, dont care about the year) so it should be safe to start up right?

I wrote a guide on this here: http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?209379-How-To-Not-Lose-Villagers-When-You-re-Away

It explains step-by-step on how to avoid losing your villagers when you go back to the game.

You can go to your activity log and see past dates when you've played the game.

This is not at all safe, because if you're off by a week, that's enough to lose villagers.

How far behind you are in the game compared to real life has nothing to do with it. What matters is how much time the game think it has passed. If you last played in February (for example) and the game was set to January at the time, the fact that it's now set to August still means that time would have passed in your game. You'd still have to set your 3DS date to the February date.

However, if you've checked with a new character and nobody has moved, it should be safe to start with your mayor. To be extra safe, you could check again (with the new character) and make sure that nobody is in boxes either.
