Basically genetic engineering is messing around with an organisms DNA for research, ecological, or economical reasons.

Some examples of genetic engineering are:
Tomato- engineered to increase shelf live (time before it goes bad) and avoid bacteria
Transparent Frogs- used to obvious research reasons
Glofish- fish that glow under certain lights, meant for research but became a comment pet probably sold at one of your local fish stores
Bananas- a fungus has been recently attacking many banana plantations and genetic engineering may be an easy solution
There are other examples where genetic engineering modifies food to provide different vitamins and some even vaccines! Others, like strawberries, are modified to become larger providing more fruit.

There are people who say genetic engineering goes against their religious views but without knowing it they eat genetically engineered foods! Others claim that they can harm ecosystems when really most genetically engineered organisms are monitored and never released, some are made to have special reproductive environments too.

So, what are your thoughts on genetic engineering?
Also should humans be able to be genetically engineered?

<div class='spoiler_toggle'>debate thread crap</div><div class="spoiler" style="display:none;">Appropriate name....anyway in case anyone with a stick up their ass wants to tell me how debate threads are ruining TBT I waited until most of the debate threads died out and were replaced by conversation/opinion threads</div>

Uhh.. Aren't all bananas already been geneticly modified? And the problem is since all the DNA is the same, the tree fungus harming the banana trees, is really killing them all off. That's why the price of the banana is estimated to go up in a couple of years, because of the lack of them we will have in the future :r

Also, most food in our grocery stores have been through genetic modification. Just sayin'.

Wow you sound incredibly stubbron, do you actually understand what is being done to food/animals undergoing genetical engineering?

and nerds? These people will be preventing extinction while you're managing a deli, -1

I should have also asked, should humans be able to go through genetic engineering before birth?

No they shouldn't, unless they are about to die. Scientists should start out with plants to do that research first.

You do realize you can't change the genes of someone that is already alive, right?
