Gaia Online

So back in middle school me and my friends used to be mad into Gaia Online, I remember making tons of friends, tons of money, and getting all of the best items.

After not having gone on in forever I decided to check in and realized that I am actually excessively wealthy on there and now I really want to get back into it. But all of my old friends no longer play and I don't recognize half the site. >.<

So I was wondering if anybody else plays it as well, I know the target audience is teens/kids but as a 21 year old I can still enjoy it. There are some cool people on there, fun games, and I really love buying stuff and dressing up my lil' chibi!

My girlfriend and I have accounts on Gaia Online. The site itself is suffering severely though. It's become really cash-grabby in the past 2 years. Every day there's at least 8 announcements to buy overpriced pixels, and at it's worst, Gaia had over 40 announcements advertising sales/purchasable items in a single day. Furthermore, a lot of the site still hasn't been updated. The interface hasn't been updated in almost 6 years now, and many of the games look exactly how they did in 2004-2006. There's also a lot of inflation on the site. 1 billion gold is equivalent to around 1k gold these days because Gaia decided to sell currency for cash hundreds of times (literally). All in all - you'll probably be quite disappointed in the site :S.

I used to love Gaia as a middle/high schooler. The word games forum was fun. I used to love the hell out of making dream avatars on Tektek too.

But nowadays, the thrill is gone for me. Tektek is offline. Getting items for your avatar got a bit harder from the instability/inflation of the gold market (I would never spend real $ on it either, which makes things easier). zOMG! is gone. The old flash games don't interest me. I'm going to assume my beloved word games forum is still running alright, though.

I never understood why people say they "play" Gaia. It's more of a social website, isn't it? Yes, they have a few games and RP on the forums (or god forbid Towns), but it's not really a game at heart.

That was a bad wording, but I guess I say that cause it's like a game site? I don't know quite frankly. I should have said USE perhaps instead, my brain isn't at 100% last night.

I used to hang in towns a lot, and I guess the inflation is why all of my items I bought for hardly anything are now worth like billions/trillions. I do have like a ton of the specialty stuff though. I used to love the forums and stuff and like the anon-gifting threads and stuff, the events used to be fun too. But I did notice they were like desperately advertising themselves all over the site. =[

I still love my avi and getting to dress her different ways, thought I don't understand the little animals and stuff now? Like what I can be a tiny cat person? What even?

Towns was my fave, during holidays I would make my avi tiny by doing one of the small animals items you could "be" and hide behind the snowmen and pretend I was the snowman. Such good times. The new towns makes me sad, and I miss the movies and not even watching the movies just having pop-corn fights and talking over it and stuff instead. So great!
