So I felt this way with NL too, and now again in NH. There are just too many fossils. It's always been the first part of my museum to fill (through a few NL towns and very close in NH), while bugs and fish can take a full year and the art much longer.
I'm already selling most of my fossils every day. I'm not sure if we all get the same number, but I find up to 6 in my 2-player island (spouse doesn't play most days). It's nice for cash flow, but also not exciting anymore. I feel like they were much harder to find in older games.
Do you guys agree? Could the balance be changed?
I think reducing the overall spawn rate, or making them appear in special circumstances, might make it more exciting (after rain, certain fossils only on NMT islands, etc). Or seasonal spawns, or different rarities for different fossils. Like if you ran into a ton of ammonites for every t-rex piece (for a dose of realism too!). Though maybe that already exists and I haven't noticed.
