So I felt this way with NL too, and now again in NH. There are just too many fossils. It's always been the first part of my museum to fill (through a few NL towns and very close in NH), while bugs and fish can take a full year and the art much longer.
I'm already selling most of my fossils every day. I'm not sure if we all get the same number, but I find up to 6 in my 2-player island (spouse doesn't play most days). It's nice for cash flow, but also not exciting anymore. I feel like they were much harder to find in older games.

Do you guys agree? Could the balance be changed?
I think reducing the overall spawn rate, or making them appear in special circumstances, might make it more exciting (after rain, certain fossils only on NMT islands, etc). Or seasonal spawns, or different rarities for different fossils. Like if you ran into a ton of ammonites for every t-rex piece (for a dose of realism too!). Though maybe that already exists and I haven't noticed.

I think its designed that way on purpose. You get 3-5 fossils per day, and they aren't monthly/seasonal and art is locked behind RNG visits from Redd. It isn't surprising that fossils are the first to be completed.

Pretty much this. After little while I see them as another source of bells

Yep, like the money trees, once you complete or get close to completing the exhibit, this is mainly easy money to reward playing every day

i honestly don't see a problem...

i think they made it easier for the player to complete the fossils, so you can have something ''early'' on in the game, to be proud of.
sure the fish and bugs are harder since they are scattered around all year in different seasons, but that is to keep you playing and searching for them.
and the paintings,.. you can always start a tread saying you want to buy certain paintings.
someone is bound to have what you look for.

I have four on my island every day. Sometimes mystery islands will have one though.

I'm fine with 4 fossils per day, they're a nice source of income from daily tasks after a while. It's cool that all the exhibitions in the museum are collected differently; fossils are easily grinded throughout the year, bugs spawn seasonly, fish do too but you don't see which one you're going to get and Redd has his fake art mechanic. I think all of them being different in some way makes the museum more interesting to me.

I've yet to complete my fossils, I cannot find the final piece of the sabertooth ANYWHERE, even on fossil trading threads here.
So no, I don't think it's too easy.

Ha, well I'm glad you guys are happy with it. I guess I just want it to be harder! I'm actually OK with how long the other exhibits take. Maybe it is intentionally balanced that way.
I think I like to work for my bells, too. Fishing is probably my favorite part of the game, and just having easy money laying around discourages more active bell-earning. But my affinity for layout changes and red zen bridges certainly empties my pockets quickly.

I like them the way they are. I have always seen them as a source of income. Plus, I am trying to complete a T-Rex model outside of my museum and would find it incredibly annoying to have it take any longer. Have already been working on it a month ; . ;

I do think it was nice when we could make models though. Gave a reason to collect them all twice.

Agreed about models! I like that you can do it with fish and bugs now. Maybe that's a feature that will be added for fossils later? There are rumors of a museum shop...
I hadn't considered using fossils outside either. I've seen some people do it and it's really cool.

I actually like the way they structured them. I think it gives something a little more fast paced to collect while everything else remains locked behind seasonality. After a while though, I just hope they spawn in hidden parts of my town so I don't have to see them. The dig spots can be quite an eyesore.

I haven't tested this in NH, but in NL you could just rebury your unidentified fossils behind a building to stop new ones from appearing. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in NH.

I really want a T-Rex outside as well, but I haven't even completed it inside my museum yet. I do have a Stegosaurus outside and am constantly getting those pieces.

It’s always been like this, imo. Except GCN, which had the most awful method of donating fossils

I was just talking about this with my daughter. Didn't we have to mail them in?? And you could only donate one at a time. So tedious!

Yep. All fossils were assesed via mail. You has to wait and then take them to Blathers

i collect so many fossils at this point and i'm too lazy to go and get them assessed by blathers lol... like probably a full 2-3 pockets worth sitting in my storage. this thread totally reminded me to do that, and hope that my fossil collection may be mostly complete after it! i'm honestly ok with the frequency in the game, although i can't play that often so it's a relief that when i can, i can collect so many fossils lol but i can see why others' opinions may differ!
