Flowers Around Trees: Disappearing Fruit

Until today, I had always put flowers around trees because why not? It looks good and I want to get that perfect town. However, one thing I discovered today had me moving all my flowers away from the trees and into open fields.

While shaking a fruit tree that was surrounded by flowers, the fruit dropped as usual, however, while one fruit dropped into an open space, the others disappeared into the flowers. I picked the fruit on the open ground up and confused as to where the other fruit went, I went to pick up the flowers that they landed in, thinking they were under it. To my surprise, the fruit completely vanished without a trace.

I don't know how long this problem has been in the series, but it's simply annoying that any objects that land in a plot of flowers simply disappears. While I can understand the technical complexities of having two objects sharing one space, this completely undermines the idea of customization of your town. If I don't have any more open space in my town, yet I can't put my flowers around trees without worrying about disappearing fruit or objects, then where can I put them?

Anyone else annoyed by this?

I feel your pain, but you can do what I do. I have the flowers around my trees and before I shake them I pick the flower. After getting the fruit to fall, I replant as I pick it up. Sure it's 2 extra steps, but I don't mind since I get to maintain the flow of the landscaping and i get my fruit if I need it as well.

I do what mousehole does. I have flowers literally covering my whole town, so I really have to. Paths will also gobble up fruits into a black hole of nothingness so be careful. Same goes for rock loots and such.

Yeah, with the way my town is laid out, most of the time my fruit disappears when I shake the trees due to it falling in paths, bushes, and flowers. Whenever a villager asks me for a fruit, I usually have to look for one of the few trees with an empty space near it, or temporarily pick up a piece of the path to let the fruit fall. Collecting fruit to sell, well, I've pretty much abandoned that, and now I just stick with beetle hunting.
