Flower bed question

I'm considering to place the flower bed public works project and I would like to know the following:
Can you place items in the flower bed and do flowers spawn outside of it (if you grow flowers in them)?
I'm also curious about what you can place in the sandbox, whether flowers could be placed there and if items could be placed there as well.

I dunno about the first one but I'm pretty sure flowers spawn outside of it.

Alright, that doesn't help much though - I've seen such things being said elsewhere but I'd like to know for sure, from somebody who's experienced it himself. Anyone else know?

There is no point on wasting bells on a pwp only to
find out it doesn't work the way they wanted it to

Sadly I can't help you but I am pretty sure you can't
plant flowers in the sandbox

One of my villagers planted a flower in the sandbox. I've never tried to plant one.

You definitely cannot plant flowers in the sandbox and the flowers will not spawn outside of the flower bed, I had one in my previous town, so I'm certain.

Bumping this, since I still don't have a full answer to my questions.

Answer: You can put only flowers in the flower bed, no items, flowers dont spawn outside of the flower bed either, in the sandbox you cannot have plants nor can you have items in it.

Last night I tested the sandbox and was able to plant a flower in the sandbox.
