What do you prefer in Animal Crossing? Fishing, or bug hunting?

For me, it always has been fishing, since the days of the GameCube version. Some of the bugs attack, but the fish don?t attack. And fish are less sensitive.

I prefer bug hunting. First of all, I can see in advance what I'm going to catch so I know whether it's worth my time or not. When it comes to fishing, I only know a fish is worth it if it's really huge or has a fin. Bug hunting is also faster than fishing. It doesn't take long to line up my net and swing, but sometimes I have to cast my fishing line multiple times to get a fish to bite. Or worse, it'll bite once and then swim off in another direction so I have to recast...only to find out it's a sea bass.

I also have better luck fishing when it's quiet so I can hear the fish take the bait, but I don't often have that luxury because my husband will be watching something or my dog starts barking. Those things can make me miss a fish, but don't interfere with catching bugs.

When I go to the island, I do catch both fish and bugs, but my basket usually contains far more bugs than fish by the time I'm done.

i prefer fishing, but it's easier to bug hunt because you can see exactly what you're hunting for, whereas fishing you just hope to get lucky

It depends on how I am feeling. If I am looking for high profit and am mostly attentive, I will island farm. Other than that, I will usually fish. I dislike not being readily able to save or leave on the spot, so I am likely to fish.

For me, it depends on the location.

I preferred bug (big bells beetle) hunting at the island. It was a relaxing and profitable pastime.

I preferred fishing in my towns. Unfortunately, bug hunting in town could wreak havoc on my hybrid farms.

Fishing! Especially when I discovered the actual amount of fishes! At first I really thought there wasn't much but when I discovered the variety of fishes I fell in love with them. I still have some fish tanks in my New Leaf house even today.
What I like most is spending hours trying to catch arapaimas or stringfishes, I just LOVED to see those gigantic shadows in the river. It felt so satisfying to catch one of those.
And actually in my current town I still only need one fish to complete my fish section of the encyclopedia! It's the saddled bichir, been trying to catche it for a while but I surrendered and actually stopped playing the game completely so heh.
I'm so happy as I've never been this far! And this close to getting the golden fish rod. Not that I'll use it since well... I caught everything.

I used to be more into fishing, but I've grown to appreciate bug catching more over the past few years. Reeling in exceedingly rare fish is great, and I even have fond memories of fishing for Red Snapper, Barred Knifejaw, and Coelacanth back on the GameCube game, but more often than not you're going to be catching something low-priced that is not what you're looking for. As others have stated, with bug catching you can tell exactly what you're dealing with and whether to bother or not. Additionally, while not part of the act of catching itself, the insects tend to look better when displayed in a house than the fish tend to in their usually big and bulky tanks (save for some like the goldfish or sea horse), so I guess there's some bias at play there for me.

I still enjoy both in their own ways, but yeah, of the two I'd say I prefer bug catching.

If we're talking recreational and not for profit, I prefer fishing! I tend to be running around town a lot and scare most bugs away before I even get a look at them, but seeing a surprise big shadow in the river and snagging a Dorado or an arowana out of the blue is so invigorating! I love closing my eyes and listening for that big bloop, just feels more exciting when you get a rare catch.

Also where's the love for diving? Just kidding, swimming around for scallops has biased me against that. XD

Going purely by how much I enjoy doing it, I would pick fishing. Even if fishing gave 0 Bells from doing it, I would probably still fish on occasion. Not to mention you can do it year-round in your town.

When on the island, I prefer the bug hunting for making quick cash and because it's easy to see what I'm going to catch. But I always keep an eye out of those fins and try to catch the sharks when I can.

In my town, I prefer fishing down on the beach where I don't have to worry about destroying my grass. I only fish in the river to complete tasks or to catch something I haven't caught yet. Same with bug hunting, only to complete tasks or to catch something I haven't yet caught.

I rarely ever dive and only to complete a task or to catch something I need for the museum. I hate the diving and I'm not very good at it. I get very frustrated because I either can't catch something at all or it disappears right as I get to it.

This is a tough one to choose for me. I chose bug hunting simply because you could walk just about anywhere in your town and see a bug you can potentially catch. It's not only what bugs you catch but how you catch them as well. I liked the idea of shaking trees to get some bugs, getting a mole cricket by digging up the ground, being cautious when catching tarantulas and scorpions, and catching a diving beetle on a river.

Fishing kind of stresses me out, and I feel more comfortable bug hunting, I guess it's cause that was just the easier way to make bells for me, so I spent more time into doing it. I also always mess up fishing, because it makes me anxious and i either press A way too early, or do it too late. Overall, I just have an easier time and a better outcome when bug hunting :)

bug hunting is easier for me? no need to spend 2 minutes trying to get in a better position to get fish senpai to notice you only for it to be like,, a sea bass :))) but i do like the feeling of satisfaction you get when you successfully get a shark or a barred knifejaw and i love seeing my character holding up a gigantic fish and stuffing it into her pockets like it's no biggie. i guess i just think bug hunting is more profitable? but fishing is fun too!!

I like bug catching more, since I can see what I?m going after. Fishing drives me crazy when I keep catching the same fish over and over while I?m trying to look for rare and expensive ones lol.

I love bug hunting. I find it really exciting when the bug you're looking for FINALLY shows up, and I prefer using the net to using the fishing rod. I often get impatient fishing because you never know what you're going to get - you never know if it is worth it or not to go after one particular shadow.

Always been bug hunting for me. I find fishing to be a little bit harder having to reel them in at the correct time where as bug hunting is easier that way. Only downside I find is that I don't wanna run after some bugs and trample my hybrids hahahaha.

I prefer fishing over the bug hunting because I have always love the sport of fishing ever since I was a kid. I even remember catching my first real fish on one of my summer vacations and it was the best! So I love fishing both in real life and in New Leaf. Grant it though, fishing can kinda be a pain when the fish doesn't see your bait, but I don't really mind. Also, bug catching is fine, but I remember countless times being bitten by the tarantula or stung by the scorpion and it wasn't very fun for me. So yeah, I like fishing better.
