Today's fishing tourney had me thinking how I prefer bug-catching. Both are fun, but fish in this game move in such a stiff way and can be a chore to catch because of how you must aim to get the hook to land precisely in front of them. I love the feeling of catching bugs as they slither across the ground and swirl through the air, especially those elusive darner dragonflies! I like how the net feels in my character's hand. I hope we have a bug-catching tourney soon.

I'm curious what you think and why!

Both are fun, but I suppose due to me having an aversion of water makes me more inclined to enjoy bug catching. I also am more fond of that area of the museum too. (The aquariums are very pretty though!)

I prefer fishing, just because there's more of them that are worth more money. It's also easier to make them spawn, especially now that bait exists.

I actually made myself a list that shows the sell value of every single fish and bug in the game. I put them into categories: "bad" (less than 500 bells), "OK" (less than 1000 bells but 500 or more), and "great" (1000 or more). There's way more fish in the "great" category than there are bugs in the "great" category.

That list actually sounds really helpful, I may do something like that myself

I played wild world recently and realized how the fish there just run to your hook basically. Here you have to position it perfectly which just kind of sucks

Fishing right now since I don’t TT but come summer...it’s gotta be bug catching. I’m gonna make back all the money I lost building up the town infrastructures BY MYSELF. Villagers are no help. Lol.

Bugs are a lot more fun to come by because you can actually see what you're catching and even if you don't catch them, they enhance the environment. I will say that the aquarium portion of the museum is WAY cooler than the bug portion though.

I like fishing much more. Fishing is easier in this game than in NL because your fishing rod acts like the silver fishing rod. Fish swim to your hook as long as it is in front of them at a reasonable distance. Pond fish are easier to catch because they turn around and see your hook and swim right to it. Then again, I like fishing in almost any game it is in. Must be memories of my dad taking me fishing as a kid.

Thanks for your opinions, islanders! Most seem to share my preference as well. I literally have more than a hundred bug containers sitting on my island at this moment, I'm going to sell them. Sad thing is Flick visited my island yesterday, and now he's gone. Makes me wonder how much I could've made from this bug mountain I have right now '.'

Easy, bug catching. It's way more chill and I love bugs. Plus I like that you can see what you're catching.

Fishing is super aggravating for me cause it's RNG and I suck at it.

I like fishing right now simply bc it brings in more money. Maybe during the summer when the beetles come out I'll enjoy bug catching a bit more c:

well, bugs are terrifying especially in this game where they’re bigger and more realistic, so fishing automatically wins lol. if i spotted a tarantula or scorpion island i would immediately fly back home and not catch a single thing.

i also just love the water and the ocean irl and the aquarium part of the museum is beautiful!!

Fishing I find it more relaxing because I can just zone out and listen. Plus it's a SUPRISE. What kind of fish will I get. A seabass or something like a tuna?
Bugs are fun too but I have to be in the mood for it.

I prefer fishing, I feel like it's easier. if you don't put the bobber in the right place you can just take it out and try again but if you're a little too close to the bug but miss it, it'll just disappear or fly away so you don't get another chance.

1k isn't really that great and anything less than that is not worth the time. Paper kite butterflies and man-faced stinkbugs are everywhere where there are flowers and they're worth 1k. Bugs are much more profitable in general because you know what you're getting and you usually just have to walk or sneak up to them and swing your net while fishing requires you aim your hook and wait for the fish to find it and then nibble up to 5 times. If you're trying to make bells quickly, it's usually only worth going after fish that are huge and you know are going to be worth a lot because otherwise you'll waste a lot of time pulling up dabs, sea bass, and other garbage.

That being said, I think fishing is more fun because of the surprise factor and it's nice when you pull up huge fish like oarfish.

I think I prefer bug-catching for the lack of surprise element. Trying to catch a specific fish when there's no indicator of what it is other than size just isn't fun to me. Plus I just like seeing the models for em.
