those of you that read the "Inside Xbox" thing will know that the first gameplay video of Gears of War 2 will be released on the Marketplace *EDIT* today.

I'm psyched. I have high expectations for the graphics, but still that nagging bit of doubt, thinking that it'll look exactly like the first one. D:

Hopefully we'll get a look into this "chainsaw duel" business also.

EDIT: Oops. Gremp got his days mixed up. I thought it was the 8th today. It's releasing tonight!

UPDATE: It will also be featured on GameTrailers TV tonight (Spike TV, 1:00 AM PT)

and if you NEEEEEED the video ASAP (like me xD) The video is supposed to be released on the marketplace at 11:00 PM PT.

They seem to have basically lied. xD

they said "Available on Xbox LIVE at 11 PM PT on May 9th!" Then later attached a video to it, titled "Want to see it earlier?" In the video, it talks about how it'll be aired on GTTV first, then be available on saturday morning on XBL.

well, I'm ticked. Another hour and a half to burn, and I have to watch through all of GTTV just to see a video that lasts only a few minutes. ugh.

EDIT: oh crap, I got my time zones mixed up. the original time for XBL would be 1 AM for me also... meaning to watch GTTV, I have to wait till friggin 3 AM? Wow.

EDITv2: after a large amount of confusion, it turns out it will be airing at Midnight tonight for Central viewers, so... 45 minutes. Well, it's better.

EDITv3:

I just watched it on GTTV. A few points....

1. The graphics are almost the same.
2. The promised large scale battles are definitely there. Awesome looking.
3. Chainsaw battles seem sweet.... I guess the chainsawwing won't be so repetitive anymore. the blood-splatter-on-screen effect is a bit lowered so you can see the Locust being chopped in half a bit easier

:P
4. Looks like there'll be a bit more large enemies this time.
5. I dunno if I'm just seeing things... but did anyone else notice that the gore was toned down a bit?

:( In fact... I didn't see any blood other than things involving the chainsaw. They may have just turned off the "extreme content" (if that continues to exist) setting, but why would they do that? o.O
6. Also, it seems like there will be some in-cinematic button pushing. Notice that at the very beginning it tells you to press X for a split second. I hate that kind of thing D: (incorrect, read edit below.)
7. Some sort of holding there... Seems pretty cool, notice that he snapped his neck to finish him off, sweet

:P In detail, it seems you can pick up a downed locust and use him as a shield while shooting the enemy.
8. New guns. There seems to be some sort of futuristic BAR-esque gun there, seemingly automatic, but slow.

I Officially dub this thread....

The Gears of War 2 Impressions and Expectations and Crap Like That Discussion Thread of Threadness. BEGIN.

For those of you who missed it:

so, graphically, I don't see much difference, but it has a shiny new physics engine, and a crapload of new features. it seems to be turning out pretty well, not perfect, but it'll be good.

The story is a bit interesting. I'm glad they came up with something at least moderately creative.

EDITv4:

number 6 on my list is incorrect. It seems that it's going straight from the cinematic straight into gameplay seamlessly, and the player was right next to a turret, so it was saying "press X to get on the turret." my bad.

Looks good.

Though, I haven't played Gears of War, sadly. I heard it was amazing and everything, but I got my Xbox just this past Christmas, so I kinda missed the craze.

I'm guessing you'll have to play the first one to understand the second, right?

Other than the textures, looks exactly the same as the first. But hey, I'm sure nobody was expecting a huge graphical jump.

Oh man, the chainsaw wars look epic. Only thing that really bothers me is how they were in a huge machine shooting at other huge machines... this isn't Halo. Where's the street guerrilla warfare from the original game? D:

You should totally get it, if you like 3rd person shooters, GoW is the best on the market right now imo.

and by how he was explaining the story for the second one, the two stories don't seem to really tie together much. The game was never really story-based.

Whether you get the first or not is up to you, if you want to get it now and then get GoW2 later, or if you want to just wait for the second. Or just not get it, in which case, I'll have to hunt you down.

:P

Yeah, I kinda expected that. The scenery is a bit more detailed, but the models are almost the same. I'm guessing that the first one was already near the 360's limits, or EPIC is just really lazy. Still, all the new gameplay features are enough of an improvement to me.

UPDATE: After watching on the 360, I noticed that the blood is still there, just not as goopy and extreme. It's more realistic, rather than looking like something off of "300". But it's still there, and I personally like it more than that nasty jelly.

This is also only May, the game comes out in November for the holiday season.

here's a version from the real site, in much better quality.

Another thing...

The locust look much better in this one. Look at the one that he grabs, much more detail to those "cracks" in their skin. Also notice that there's some permanent blood-marking. In the first one, enemies would never have visual measures of their damage, but it seems that when they get shot, they have visible wounds.

man, the game looks extremely polished, and we're 5-6 months away from release! This is gonna be huge.

I'm sure there will be graphical improvements in the finished product. Didn't any of you see the Unreal Engine video?

Anyway-

1: Holding a downed Locust hostage?! OMG!
2: Chainsawing is more realistic- when you get them from behind, they don't turn and face you any more, you just stick it right in them. (That sounded dirty.)
3: The new weapon we saw is a semi-automatic pistol that the new Locust enemy will use. (If any of you read the new GameInformer.)
4: We didn't see any of the destructible environments. : (
5: Large scale battles = good, but I hope the smaller, more tactical skirmishes will stay as well.
6: Chainsaw battles are always nice.

I'm excited.
