Okay I'm working on setting up my town now (paths etc) and a few things came to my mind...

Q1. Can a villager place their house on top of paths?

Q2. If I make an outline of a plot with paths will a villager build their house there?

Question one is basically so I know whether if I come on one day a villager won't be building a house right in the middle of my path. As for question two I've seen several dream addresses were people have gaps for houses to be built where they've been placing paths. I'm not sure whether this is due to a villager just moving and they haven't tidied up or they're waiting for someone to move in.

And lastly later in the year I'm going on holiday for two weeks and was wondering if there was some way to keep my villagers from moving away after not playing for two weeks or else I'll have to bring my 3ds with me and go on every now and then.

O3. Can you prevent villagers from moving after not being on for quite some time?

I've heard something about time travelling back to the day you last played, then playing day by day but I'm not sure if that's for this particular situation or something else.

All help appreciated ^^

Yes, a villager can place their house over paths, items, trees, etc anything but rocks, pwps or other buildings.

No, outlines do not work. People have set up gaps mostly to identify where it is they want the villager to move in after resetting various times to get them there, or in some cases, like you said, a previous villager left there and has since moved.

I think to avoid having a villager move out and not playing for a long time, you could save and quit after you deny someone requesting or asking to move out. I remember I didn't play for a month and nobody moved at all.

The first two have already been answered, and for the third one, yes, you can TT to the last day you played and everything will be how you left it, or you can do what Lurrdoc said and save and quit after you deny someone's request to move.

Thank you very much! I think my one friend that had the outlining in her town told me it was because she does plot resetting and was planning on making her last dreamie move there. I'll probably end up bringing my 3ds along but if I don't I'll definitely try what you suggested.
