Feminism

i learned it in school
my teacher was a feminist and she explained it to us really well
everyone in the class learned about it from her and im pretty sure everyone thought it was awesome
it was actually really cute looking back on it and the stuff she told me has really helped me push myself to the best as i can

People are learning about feminism from tumblr and twitter? This generation makes me a little sad.

Oh well.

huh? i have never heard about feminism in my life until you know, the internet. people dont talk about it in school or in media. like ive never seen anything about feminists on TV until a few weeks ago when the news showed a small glimpse of feminists on the streets protesting.

I...wonder how many people are aware that humanism was a renaissance movement that involved painting people with toned butts.

Already said my 2 cents so heh out of here

Oh but @tsun: feminism and other humanitarian/political movements come into your life a whole lot more from sophomore year and onwards, because you learn world history around those grades. Feminism on the internet is very much based on american ethics and views- oh crap I'm becoming blathers bye

before I piss on the fact that internet sj is very closed circuit within a small demographic

Well I mean it's not surprising to me for someone to learn about it from the internet, but Tumblr and Twitter are not exactly the best places for intellectual discussion.

twitter its kinda hard to talk because of the limit, but ive learned a lot from tumblr. like because of tumblr ive gone on to reading more stuff about social justice and history. idk im pretty sure it opened my eyes by like..a lot. the sj blogs i follow are pretty smart and know what they're talking about

Agreed, tumblr is probably one of the worst sites to partake in any kind of discussion, there's huge misinformation there and a lot of hatred. I don't see how anyone can learn anything there in a safe and factual way. The internet CAN be used to learn things and to inform others, but some people are simply not equipped to do so in a non-biased manner. Certainly not there.

This sounds just like my teacher :) People in my class who had a negative attitude towards feminism has now changed their minds, more or less. There was also a spokesperson from a Swedish Feminist party that came to my school and talked about their aims. It was well appreciated by all students, even those who do not call themselves feminists. I even consider becoming a member of that party.

That's not sad. The sad part is that people are not being taught about feminism anywhere else than on the internet.
