While play with a couple friends, the idea came up of gender-swapped personality types, essentially.
Sure, you can say the personalities are fitting enough with the genders they're already assigned to, but that doesn't mean there can't be exceptions!

Now, I don't know about your experience with smug villagers, but the one in my town, Chadder, is a total flirt.
During today only, Chadder has called me dreamy, referred to me as "shawty," and asked me to use the shower in his house in two separate ways. Imagine a flirty female fox! (On that note, FOX VILLAGERS!) Although, maybe tone down the romance a bit, we don't want kids playing this game to grow up into furries because of one particularly racy villager. (it's just a joke!!! c: )

My friend brought this up, Julian is practically the perfect fit to be a male snooty villager. Also, in the Japanese version, Gracie is male. Is there a single character more snooty than Gracie?? I want co-ed groups that are gossiping about everyone else!

I don't really know how to verbalize why we need female cranky villagers, but I'm sure you all can picture it yourselves. It's just... right. You know?

While I doubt that they'd do that, I think it's a really nice idea! I don't see why personalities should be gender I exclusive at all.

You never know! I don't know a single other series that its most recent installment is universally regarded as the best installment besides Animal Crossing. Hopefully, Animal Crossing on the Switch will keep up, and with that we can hope features like this will be added (:

i feel like it'd be too much of a jump to mix it up on the switch game. but i think it'd be really cool and interesting!! it'd help diversify the villagers a bit, too...

I don't see how it's a jump at all... it's not insane that girls aren't the only ones who like gossip and fashion :/

Or how about completely new personalities for both genders. New game, new console, new specs, new everything. Think bigger ppl... or well I hope nintendo is thinking bigger than that

ah sorry i guess i phrased it wrong...i didn't mean that it's an outrageous idea or anything, i just meant that i feel like it would be a lot to implement all at once. smug girls and smug boys probably won't have the exact same dialogue, you know? i'm very sorry for the misunderstanding >.<

Oh no! I sounded too mean! Sorry about that. And honestly, I don't think that they actually do need to write new dialogue save for maybe a few conversations. Gender doesn't really come up too often in chats.

As a closet cranky female myself (I act like a normal in public, but my friends/family know the real me), I would love to see this! I'm all for breaking down the gender barrier.

You should hear me carping to LaBelle or Mabel every time they say something is from the men's or women's collection. Who cares! Clothes and accessories are just that--anyone can wear them! I also get cranky about the fact that if you say "cool" then Rover makes you a boy, and if you say "cute" you're a girl. Girls can be cool! Boys can be cute! Gah!

I'm pretty much a male normal (minus the cleaning/cooking hobbies), so to see those in game would be great! I think male peppies and female smugs would also be fun to see!

*snickers* I have the perfect name for a female cranky personality..

It starts with a b.. heheh..

I wouldn't be surprised to see this in the new game. They've already introduced the idea in Pocket Camp. Most of the personalities there have both genders included. The "cool" personality, which I would have thought to contain only males, actually has many animals from both genders. And interestingly, the "sporty" personality (which is basically the equivalent of jock in NL) has the female bear, Charlise.
