Female-named hurricanes kill more than male hurricanes because people don’t respect

I didn't even know there were male named Hurricanes, the famous ones are always female named. The more you know.

I believe the hurricanes Charlie and Andrew (and maybe Ivan?) were pretty devastating and therefore well-known, but I can't think of any female named ones other than Sandy and Katrina.

that's really ridiculous, I didn't actually know there were hurricanes with male names until now, though.

Yeah, they alternate every year and go through the whole alphabet. Example:
Year one:
A - male
B - female
C - male
D - female
E - male
Etc.

Year two
A - female
B - male
C - female
D - male
E - female
Etc.

So one year might be Anna, Benjamin, Carly, David, and Elizabeth, and the next would be Anthony, Belle, Colin, Dana, Eric, and so on. (Totally random names btw, just the first ones that came to mind)

I didn't keep up much with the coverage on this, but wasn't Hurricane Patricia a really bad hurricane? I'm not sure if it ever came to touch land with it's initial strength, but it was a really strong hurricane when it was first spotted.

Oh yeah, you're right! That was the strongest one ever recorded in the western hemisphere, I believe.

Why not just name them all like "CHAINSAW DEATH OMEGA OVER 9000" then people would be outta there like nobodies business.

So what kind of person comes up with these kind of articles? And which person pays him/her for making an article like this? Seriously, who enjoys reading this nonsense? “[Our] model suggests that changing a severe hurricane’s name from Charley … to Eloise … could nearly triple its death toll,”Seriously? “When under the radar, that’s when it [the sexism] has the potential to influence our judgments,” Seriously?! How ******** are you when you hear there's a hurricane coming and you decide not to do anything because it's named after your grandmother? High-quality journalism...

i think you're kind of missing the point. while the article itself wasn't great the content is very accurate. whether or not you liked the article people do judge hurricanes on gender based expectations. there's a number of academic journals - google it. if you are only commenting on the quality of the article then i apologise but the tone of your comment makes it sound like you think they're speaking a lot of ****.

I understand what you mean. Even if all statements are correct, although I can't judge if they're or aren't, I'm just suprised to see these kind of reports/investigations are being used for news articles. Maybe just from an cultural view point but people who work for the news here will get fired for less then using these kind of sources. I'm not trying to talk ****ty about the investigation/report, and I apologize if it did look like that, but I think we can all agree that on first sight these seem to be less professional than others which is most likely just due the subject.

This is an amazing and funny idea. Imagine people running down the streets saying that! Although I think maybe the name might have to change slightly because to me that makes me picture some giant robot with chainsaws for hands. XD
