i just.....hate how close my town hall is to my airport. it's awful. :( i really wish we could just move the town hall and plaza so i could have more room to make a nice entrance.
i'm trying to tell myself not to, i have a lot of villagers i love and adore and would be sad to lose. u__u

god nintendo pls let us move the town hall
😭

Before trying to reset, I'd recommend doing something else with that area first. I have a similiar one and at first I hated it because everything seemed so narrow, but then I tried an open design and made it work for me. It sucks that you can't do one of the amazing entrances other people had, but you can still make a nice one. Instead of working against the plaza, try working with it - make it part of the entrance! Just try something different and maybe even weird, you never know what could work for you. Become your own inspiration. 😁

Give yourself a week if it still bothers you and you can't find a work around then consider reseting. That is what I did when I took the plunge.

Weigh it carefully, but ultimatly do what makes you happy.

My RS used to be a big issue due to the distance and not only that, how it was offset. I figured out a way to make it some what symmetrical and by the time I'm done building up the town, it's not bad at all. The terraforming tool and pathway tools makes a huge differences so I highly suggest going that route first.

However, if you're still unhappy, since it's your island and you will be the one spending the time rebuilding it, there's nothing wrong with restarting. I personally didn't because I don't want to lose interest of the game if I had to restart everything.

My town hall is right next to my airport and I made a tiny little market area. If you have your heart set on something specific and it isn't possible with the space you have, then there might not be much you can do, but if you're just worried that you can't make a cute entrance in a small space then maybe you could try to look around a bit before you make up your mind and see if there's a compact look that you like.

This is my airport entrance. As you can see, the resident services building is right above it. At first I felt like the distance made it awkward and I had no idea what to do with it, this is what I ultimately decided on:

I said this in another thread, but I really think the need for an entrance area is absurdly exaggerated. Just actually look at the RS plaza: it has a small town style—not something that needs a grand walkway leading up to it. Those can definitely look very pretty, but I often find their placement kind of...well, out of place.

If you like the elaborate style and keep eyeing that area with discontent, maybe resetting is the right choice for you. Just keep in mind that there’s other, equally valid options! ^ェ^

It depends what you want to do with your town. A lot of people keep on resetting every time they want a new vibe, but with the amount of customization in NH, you can just bleed bells to move all of the buildings.

As for the close Resident Services, you can make it work :)

dont do it!

edit: do whatever works for you - but im just scared you would regret it - i guess it depends on the reasoning etc :)

I fully agree. I find that oftentimes the entrance stands out in a weird way.

Also in New Leaf people thought having the store close to the boat was much more practical for when they would grind bugs. Now when the residential area is close, you can get NMT and then quickly be by the airport. If you put the other necessitites in the same area then you can quickly sell what you found as well before going through your entire island and possibly missing stuff due to broken tools or whatever.

Having the townhall out of the way means you have to come up with your layout on your own pretty much. The restriction can guide you easier. You just need to be willing to try something new, all the creative people also had to come up with something new for themselves.

Also, you don't have to do an entrance for your residential service? Just make the bottom of your island nice and then just do an amazing entrance to the area with Nook's Cranny and/or Able Sisters. You don't have to copy incredible layouts in the same place, you can do for example a mountain entrance in the middle of your map if you like. Just make a shopping area where you'd like your residential service to be, and just make that area another residential service as well. You can't change the river outlets, but you can design the placement of your layout ideas!

I can totally relate with your situation. I was unhappy with how close my resident services was to my airport too, but after terraforming around a bit, I was able to create a really great entrance. All I can suggest is, don't give up just yet. There are other ways around it. Resetting seems like such a huge effort, and I personally don't think that it's worth going through the whole introduction again just for one building.
