Y’all ever look at other people’s islands are realize that tou don’t like what you have done with your’s. This sounds super stupid and I don’t want this to be my pity party, but sometimes it genuinely makes me sad lol. What do you guys do when you feel discouraged?
i trade or take a break--trading just excites me knowing i'm getting something i want ;; or work on lil decorations on my island ;; and work on not comparing islands :c
i wasnt a huge fan of the landscaping I was doing for my island so i ended up just taking a break from decorating and focused on other things (mainly trading for diys and whatnot)
then eventually inspiration struck and I went back and redid all the areas i was unhappy with + areas that were previously empty. now im really happy with my island
i compare myself to others a lot and the main thing i do is remind myself of my new leaf town - it was underdeveloped and messy and my islands not like that. it may not have waterfalls everywhere or a sexy museum entrance but it’s still something to be proud of ;u;
I've recently been getting upset as well. I've seen other islands, and then I would see mine. I'm proud of how things turned out, but I feel like something not right and I'm not sure how to go about fixing these things.
I reached the maximum rating by Isabelle with only minor modifications to my island such as adding more waterfalls and inclined areas. Honestly, the rule of thumb is not to compare your work with others. If you feel discouraged, just decorate your home instead. It's much easier and fun to do.
I know a few others have said this already, but I'd second taking a break. I was forced to take a break for about a week during finals, when I didn't really like my island. Post-finals, I came back to the game and felt excited and inspired rather than discouraged, and have since built lots of little areas that make me pretty happy.
Try not to compare too much. There's a lot of beautiful islands posted, and the people who've worked really hard on them want to share. But not everyone has a perfect island yet and it's a work in progress. Don't be too hard on yourself. And everything can be changed, and it's okay to copy ideas you like and give it your own spin.
It's a bit like comparing oneself to instagram models... but go to the supermarket, and not so bad. Be you.
Hey, I can totally relate to you. So much so, that I’ve lead to dumping a ton of time and energy into my town.
I watched a bunch of animal crossing island tours and have seen so many amazing islands. When I was at the 250+ hour mark I realized I hated my town. Just hated it. I ended up sticking with it, and around the 400+ hour mark I realized I loved it. I had used so many ideas and took inspiration from all these other towns and put my own spin on it and not only did I but my friends loved it and people who visited for trades loved it.
Keep working at it. Though my islands story doesn’t end there - I decided I wanted something more unique from all these modern towns, cityscapes, alleyways, gardens and jaw dropping vistas.
I sent all my hybrids to be fostered to friends or threw them on my beach and stored all the furniture, cut down every tree and tore apart every cliff and filled in all my rivers. Then re did it. I loved it.
Just like others have posted - remember this is your island. Looking at others islands and becoming depressed of theirs doesn’t serve any purpose. I always, always try to remind myself of these few things:
This game is capable of endless change. Endless. If I don’t like it, take a break and tackle it again.
Remind myself that this game is for RELAXING, if I’m not finding comfort or good feels on what I’m doing? Take a break, sit back, and tell myself that I can always go back at it and that pretty much everything in this game is mutable and can be fine tuned at a later date.
Take the game one day at a time. When you feel creeping up on you an overwhelming tide of self-loathing for your island, remind yourself that your island is unique, literally no ones is exactly like yours and the effort you put into it is worthwhile, even if only it was a lesson learned and had to scrap it and start over.
Keep going on strong! I’m rooting for you.
P.S. this is coming from a fine arts degree drop out. Don’t be discouraged too long, find the positivity this game was meant to break out. If it’s taking a while, there’s nothing wrong with taking an even longer break.
i felt like this so intensely a while back that i considered quitting the game completely, and that feeling still hits me in bursts sometimes, but when it does, i try to remember how fun i had in the previous AC games where i hardly bothered to decorate at all. i loved all my towns even if they didn't look too different after one year of gameplay from how they'd looked when i first started.
also, if you feel pressured to already have a "finished" island, try to remind yourself that there's more things to come in future updates (and hopefully more buildings), so not having everything planned yet might work out in your favor!
aside from what everyone else said, i stick to only one island theme—it’s unique and specific enough to never see any other islands that really match it, so whenever i see a gorgeous screenshot, i either say to myself, “that’s beautiful, but it wouldn’t work for my island theme, which i really love” or think about the ways it isn’t my taste (for example, i dislike narrow pathways and long stretches of fencing because they restrict movement, as well as custom patterns on the ground since you miss out on footstep sounds; i also only use one flower colour across my island). that way, i never really think, “i wish my island looked like that” when i see those stunning islands c: it’s best to stay focused on what makes your island yours!
also, i disliked what i had done to my island for a while, too—if you dislike it, why not tear it down? the best part of the game is that you can undo and redo stuff like terraforming/trees/flowers. it feels sort of rotten while you do it, but once you finish and turn your island into something you love, it’s absolutely liberating~
I just try to take inspiration and NOT get upset with myself (esp. since I'm newer to the series) also, like other people said sometimes you just may need a breather from the game!
Nah. I had this problem with New Leaf and it made me never happy with my town. I decided this time to not compare my island to others' and just do what I want. It's been making me have a lot more fun.
Sometimes, you just gotta' unplug from the internet. Just play ac for the sake of playing ac without internet or social media. Have fun talking to your villagers and catching insects/fish. I think it'll help you greatly. Everyone goes at their own pace, this ain't a race and it never will be.
I can relate because I just don’t have good spatial sense or decor abilities. I tend to have to copy other people’s ideas because I don’t have a creative mind but I think that’s okay. Just take it one area at a time.
