favorite Diddy Kong Racing character?

I have to pick Conker even though I adore Banjo. Banjo-Kazooie was one of my favorite games growing up but Conker’s Bad Fur Day is one of my favorite games ever.

Definitely Timber the Tiger. I remember reading a note in an old N64 magazine that they were working on Timber 64, but it never came about unfortunately. It sucks, especially since I was more excited for that game than any other on the console.

It's hard to explain, but I think outside of the characters that already existed in previous games or had an existing game in development at the time of Diddy Kong Racing's release (Diddy Kong, Banjo, Conker), Timber is the only character that doesn't feel like he was made specifically to meet a quota. Even though I love the game, as an adult, I can't help but feel like its cast of characters is probably its weakest element in an otherwise wonderful racing game.

As a child, however, I used to like Pipsy and Tiptup a lot more. And I quite like the designs of both Wizpig and Taj. I remember hoping that completing the game would unlock the latter as a playable racer. Instead, we got the talking clock. Life is full of such disappointments. (I know he's playable in the DS game; I didn't play that version, though)

To my knowledge - Timber, Bumper, Pipsy, and Drumstick were made for an original IP that Diddy Kong Racing was originally supposed to be, before it changed to Diddy Kong being the lead role. The cast was perhaps rushed, and I do agree that the cast is rather uninspired outside of Diddy, Banjo, Conker, and maybe Krunch and Tiptup, and that in hindsight, the other half of the cast probably should've been axed in favor of perhaps Dixie, Kiddie, Gnawty, Tooty, and Berri.

I vaguely remember reading that Diddy Kong Racing was their attempt to establish a Rare Cinematic Universe of sorts, so I'm sure that they did plan on expanding upon these characters in future titles. I know they were really hoping that Timber would eventually become their mascot of sorts, but I don't think the others were given nearly as much thought beyond "eventually we'll make games about them." But that obviously never came to pass.

I'm a little bit mixed on replacing the cast, but it's hard to deny that it would more than likely have been more financially successful and made the game feel more like its own unique entity rather than a backdoor pilot for characters that nobody had any reason to be excited for.

Krunch has been my favorite ever since I was a kid, but he was too hard to play with when I was younger. I still tried, but I was never able to complete the game. A couple of years ago, my boyfriend and I decided that we were going to try and beat the whole game 100% with Krunch, and we succeeded! My boyfriend was even able to defeat Wizpig both times, which I'm still amazed at. Krunch forever!!

As a kid, I read that Pipsy was the easiest to use, so I used her. As an adult, I eventually loved the aesthetic of Bumper. The accent and outfit rocked! I remember getting Pokemon X in 2018, and naming my Chespin after him. Love ya Bumper!
